A Generalised Bayesian Inference Method For Maritime Surveillance Using Historical Data, 2019 Wuhan University of Technology

A Generalised Bayesian Inference Method For Maritime Surveillance Using Historical Data, Jia Li, Xiumin Chu, Wei He, Feng Ma, Reza Malekian, Zhixiong Li

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

In practice, maritime monitoring systems rely on manual work to identify the authenticities, risks, behaviours and importance of moving objects, which cannot be obtained directly through sensors, especially from marine radar. This paper proposes a generalised Bayesian inference-based artificial intelligence that is capable of identifying these patterns of moving objects based on their dynamic attributes and historical data. First of all, based on dependable prior data, likelihood information about objects of interest is obtained in terms of dynamic attributes, such as speed, direction and position. Observations on these attributes of a new object can be obtained as pieces of evidence ...

Diffraction Line Profile Analysis Of 3d Wedge Samples Of Ti-6al-4v Fabricated Using Four Different Additive Manufacturing Processes, 2019 Swinburne University of Technology

Diffraction Line Profile Analysis Of 3d Wedge Samples Of Ti-6al-4v Fabricated Using Four Different Additive Manufacturing Processes, Ryan Cottam, Suresh Palanisamy, Maxim Avdeev, Tom Jarvis, Chad Henry, Dominic Cuiuri, Levente Balogh, Rizwan Rashid

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

Wedge‐-shaped samples were manufactured by four different Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes, namely selective laser melting (SLM), electron beam melting (EBM), direct metal deposition (DMD), and wire and arc additive manufacturing (WAAM), using Ti‐-6Al‐-4V as the feed material. A high‐-resolution powder diffractometer was used to measure the diffraction patterns of the samples whilst rotated about two axes to collect detected neutrons from all possible lattice planes. The diffraction pattern of a LaB6 standard powder sample was also measured to characterize the instrumental broadening and peak shapes necessary for the Diffraction Line Profile Analysis. The line profile analysis ...

An Improved Lssvm Model For Intelligent Prediction Of The Daily Water Level, 2019 Wuhan University of Technology

An Improved Lssvm Model For Intelligent Prediction Of The Daily Water Level, Tao Guo, Wei He, Zhonglian Jiang, Xiumin Chu, Reza Malekian, Zhixiong Li

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

Daily water level forecasting is of significant importance for the comprehensive utilization of water resources. An improved least squares support vector machine (LSSVM) model was introduced by including an extra bias error control term in the objective function. The tuning parameters were determined by the cross-validation scheme. Both conventional and improved LSSVM models were applied in the short term forecasting of the water level in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, China. Evaluations were made with both models through metrics such as RMSE (Root Mean Squared Error), MAPE (Mean Absolute Percent Error) and index of agreement (d). More accurate ...

Equilibrium States And Growth Of Quasi-Lattice Ordered Monoids, 2019 University of Victoria, Canada

Equilibrium States And Growth Of Quasi-Lattice Ordered Monoids, Christopher M. Bruce, Marcelo Laca, Jacqui Ramagge, Aidan Sims

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

Each multiplicative real-valued homomorphism on a quasi-lattice ordered monoid gives rise to a quasi-periodic dynamics on the associated Toeplitz $C^*$-algebra; here we study the KMS equilibrium states of the resulting $C^*$-dynamical system. We show that under a nondegeneracy assumption on the homomorphism there is a critical inverse temperature $\beta _c$ such that at each inverse temperature $\beta \geq \beta _c$ there exists a unique KMS state. Strictly above $\beta _c$, the KMS states are generalised Gibbs states with density operators determined by analytic extension to the upper half-plane of the unitaries implementing the dynamics. These are faithful Type ...

Performance Evaluation Of Non-Gps Based Localization Techniques Under Shadowing Effects, 2019 University of Wollongong

Performance Evaluation Of Non-Gps Based Localization Techniques Under Shadowing Effects, Ngoc M. Nguyen, Le Chung Tran, Farzad Safaei, Son Lam Phung, Peter James Vial, Nam N. Huynh, Anne N. Cox, Theresa Harada, Johan Barthelemy

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

Non-GPS localization has gained much interest from researchers and industries recently because GPS might fail to meet the accuracy requirements in shadowing environments. The two most common range-based non-GPS localization methods, namely Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) and Angle-of-Arrival (AOA), have been intensively mentioned in the literature over the last decade. However, an in-depth analysis of the weighted combination methods of AOA and RSSI in shadowing environments is still missing in the state-of-the-art. This paper proposes several weighted combinations of the two RSSI and AOA components in the form of pAOA + qRSSI, devises the mathematical model for analyzing shadowing effects ...

Examining Dent Formation Caused By Hailstone Impact, 2019 Adnan Menderes University, University of Wollongong

Examining Dent Formation Caused By Hailstone Impact, Mehmet Eren Uz

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

Hailstorms pose significant risk for exposed building cladding materials. Steel sheeting is the most important cladding material used. The understanding of steel sheets behavior under hail impact loading is not sufficient for the manufacturing of hail-resistant sheets. With the purpose-built equipment, artificial hailstones of different sizes were launched to impact at steel sheets of different thicknesses and yield stresses as targets. A theoretical approach for the problem of predicting the dent size due to hailstone impact was developed and compared to the test results. The expressions developed in the theory can predict the dent depth before the impact, assuming the ...

Effects Of Principal Stress Rotation On The Fluid-Induced Soil Response In A Porous Seabed, 2019 Griffith University

Effects Of Principal Stress Rotation On The Fluid-Induced Soil Response In A Porous Seabed, Zhengxu Li, Dong Jeng, Jian Zhu, Hongyi Zhao

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

Principal stress rotation (PSR) is an important feature for describing the stress status of marine sediments subject to cyclic loading. In this study, a one-way coupled numerical model that combines the fluid model (for wave-current interactions) and the soil model (including the effect of PSR) was established. Then, the proposed model was incorporated into the finite element analysis procedure DIANA-SWANDYNE II with PSR effects incorporated and further validated by the experimental data available in the literature. Finally, the impact of PSR on the pore-water pressures and the resultant seabed liquefaction were investigated using the numerical model, and it was found ...

Simulation Of Cosmic Radiation Spectra For Personal Microdosimetry At The International Space Station's Altitude, Stefania Peracchi, Susanna Guatelli, Linh T. Tran, Anatoly B. Rosenfeld

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

Latest researches predict the cosmic rays exposure during long space missions outside the Earth's geomagnetic sphere, as to the Moon and Mars, can double the cancer risk. The minimization of risk associated with radiation exposure in the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) is of great interest for astronauts of the International Space Station (ISS). This risk is due to radiation hazard and can be predicted by measurement of the dose equivalent produced by the radiation environment inside of the spacecraft. Since more than 15 years ago, the Centre For Medical Radiation Physics (CMRP), University of Wollongong, is developing silicon based ...

Characterization Of A High Spatiotemporal Resolution Monolithic Silicon Strip Detector For Mri-Linac Dosimetry, 2019 University of Wollongong

Characterization Of A High Spatiotemporal Resolution Monolithic Silicon Strip Detector For Mri-Linac Dosimetry, Trent Causer, Tess Chapman, Bradley M. Oborn, Jeremy A. Davis, Marco Petasecca, Anatoly B. Rosenfeld, Peter E. Metcalfe

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

Multiple vendors are now offering real-time MRI-guided radiotherapy systems. Quality assurance of small fields delivered with an MR-RT system requires detectors with high spatiotemporal resolution, and magnetic insensitivity. High spatial resolution is required to characterise the asymmetric penumbra that transverse designs demonstrate. In this work the authors describe the characterisation of the dosimetric performance of a monolithic silicon strip detector mounted to a flexible polymide (Kapton) printed circuit board intended for use in MRI-linac dosimetry.

Characterization Of Prompt Gamma Rays For In-Vivo Range Verification In Hadron Therapy: A Geant4 Simulation Study, Melek Zarifi, Susanna Guatelli, Yujin Qi, David Bolst, Dale A. Prokopovich, Anatoly B. Rosenfeld

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

Prompt gamma (PG) rays have been proposed for in-vivo beam range verification during treatment delivery. As a secondary by-product emitted almost instantaneously upon ion-nuclear interaction, PG rays offer real-time tracking of the Bragg peak (BP). However their detection is challenging since they have a broad energy spectrum with interference from neutrons and stray gamma rays. Numerous approaches have been proposed to utilise PG for in-vivo beam range verification. In this work, Geant4 Monte Carlo (MC) simulations have been used to study the spectral, spatial, temporal and angular distribution characteristics of PG emission and detection from hadron radiation fields of varying ...

Sabr In Clinical Trials: What Quality Assurance (Qa) Is Required And How Can It Be Done?, 2019 University of Wollongong

Sabr In Clinical Trials: What Quality Assurance (Qa) Is Required And How Can It Be Done?, Tomas Kron, Nicholas G. Hardcastle

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

Stereotactic Ablative Body Radiotherapy (SABR) has become widely used radiotherapy treatment modality for many indications ranging from early stage disease to an oligometastatic setting. All this combines the use of virtually all technological advances that characterise modern radiotherapy from small conformal fields to intensity modulation and explicit accounting for motion. However, given its novelty, clinical evidence for SABR is still emerging and many clinical trails include SABR as the intervention to define (eg in dose or fractionation defining studies) or to test against other treatment modalities. In any case, physical quality assurance (QA) must be an essential aspect of the ...

Modelling The Biological Beamline At Himac Using Geant4, 2019 University of Wollongong

Modelling The Biological Beamline At Himac Using Geant4, David Bolst, Linh T. Tran, Susanna Guatelli, Naruhiro Matsufuji, Anatoly B. Rosenfeld

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

A Geant4 simulation modelling the passive Biological beamline at the Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator Chiba (HIMAC) is described and validated against experimental measurements for a mono-energetic and spread out Bragg peak (SOBP) 12 C beam. Comparisons to experimental data showed good agreement for both lateral and depth dose profiles. It was found that simplifying the simulation model by generating a cone beam instead of using the wobbler magnets provided a good approximation for both lateral and depth dose measurements.

Towards The Readiness Of Learning Analytics Data For Micro Learning, Jiayin Lin, Geng Sun, Jun Shen, Tingru Cui, Ping Yu, Dongming Xu, Li Li, Ghassan Beydoun

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

With the development of data mining and machine learning techniques, data-driven based technology-enhanced learning (TEL) has drawn wider attention. Researchers aim to use established or novel computational methods to solve educational problems in the 'big data' era. However, the readiness of data appears to be the bottleneck of the TEL development and very little research focuses on investigating the data scarcity and inappropriateness in the TEL research. This paper is investigating an emerging research topic in the TEL domain, namely micro learning. Micro learning consists of various technical themes that have been widely studied in the TEL research field. In ...

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

Our understanding of radiation-induced cellular damage has greatly improved over the past few decades. Despite this progress, there are still many obstacles to fully understand how radiation interacts with biologically relevant cellular components, such as DNA, to cause observable end points such as cell killing. Damage in DNA is identified as a major route of cell killing. One hurdle when modeling biological effects is the difficulty in directly comparing results generated by members of different research groups. Multiple Monte Carlo codes have been developed to simulate damage induction at the DNA scale, while at the same time various groups have ...

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

High Dose Rate vaginal brachytherapy for endometrial cancer has evolved from simple single-channel (i.e. cylindrical applicator) deliveries to treatments involving several channels (i.e. multichannel applicator) for the radiotherapy source to dwell, increasing the complexity of the dose distribution, and allowing more space for potential errors. For this reason real-time treatment verification has gained a greater importance than ever before, and more methods need to be developed in order to provide assurance that the dose delivery has been carried out as intended by the hospital staff. P-type silicon epi diodes have been designed at the Centre for Medical Radiation ...
