Institutional Repository Workflow, Project Management, And Outreach In A Remote/Online Library Environment, Daina Dickman

Books, Presentations, Posters, Etc.

In 2018 Providence St. Joseph Health launched an institutional repository, primarily staffed by a librarian located in Oregon and a library assistant located in Montana with occasional help from other Library Services staff. Workflow and communication standards had to be created that would allow library staff in multiple locations and time zones to seamlessly launch, populate, and manage the institutional repository. Outreach, instruction, and promotion tactics had to also be created to reach researchers and clinical staff across six states and 100+ locations.

Library Publications and Presentations

This poster presents findings from two research studies about institutional repositories (IRs): one survey to members of the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries, and the other an open survey with primary responses from academic libraries in North America. The poster compares and contrasts several findings, including: Are academic medical institutional repositories utilizing different software platforms than other academic IRs? Are academic medical IRs staffed differently than other academic IRs? In this complex scholarly communication environment, are IR managers considering plans to migrate to new platforms? This poster explores findings from the two surveys to help capture a current snapshot ...

Lgbtqia-R: Creating A Diverse And Inclusive Medical Collection At A Public Metropolitan University, Heidi Blackburn, Omer Farooq

Information about the LGBTQIA population is difficult to collect because of the sensitive nature of the topic of sexual preference and gender identity. This paper examines our weeding project and collection development efforts to provide health care information for the LGBTQIA community at a Midwestern metropolitan university. The findings conclude that our collection was not providing sufficient, up-to-date health information for the personal and professional information needs of our patrons in the R-RZ Library of Congress range. The weeding process, strategies for working with department faculty, and the implications for an intersectional medical collection are discussed.

The Goldilocks Method: Demonstrating Your Value In Small, Medium, And Large Bites, Heather J. Martin

Books, Presentations, Posters, Etc.

Background: In an era of financial constraint hospital libraries are facing closer scrutiny and must prove their value in order to survive. Leadership at a large health system library found the traditional written annual report lacked the impact needed to capture the attention and the imagination of administration. Taking different approaches over the years, this library has found a solution that is “just right”, creating three very different documents – small, medium, and large – to demonstrate its worth.

Description: Library leadership moved away from the traditional written annual report toward a one-page infographic that depicted the library’s scope, scale, and ...

Reprographic Services: Availability And Effective Accessibility Of University Library Materials By Students In Enugu State University Of Science And Technology, Delight Udochukwu

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Adequate resources in Libraries are not an indication of a good or well-organized Library, as availability of resources does not guarantee full accessibility. Many a time, users of University Libraries find it difficult to effectively access and reproduce the available resources in the library, owing to either complete absence or shortage of reprographic facilities, which as a matter of fact, is of great concern. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of reprographic services in enhancing the availability and accessibility of library resources to students in University Libraries, a case study of Enugu State University of Science ...

Socio-Demographic Variables As Predictors Of Accessibility And Utilization Of Maternal Health Information Among Women In Lagos, Nigeria., Ngozi Blessing Ukachi

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

The rate of maternal mortality and morbidity in Nigeria had continued to be alarming notwithstanding government’s institution of intervention programmes focused on enlightening women on the need for prenatal care, postnatal care, family planning, and essential obstetric care. The need to find a lasting solution to this problem calls for a study that is not just focused on the medical factors but examines socio-demographic factors that are likely to predict access and utilization of maternal health information. The Objective of this therefore is to determine socio-demographic variables as predictors of accessibility and utilization of maternal health information, including maternal ...

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Introduction: Cloud computing is an innovative paradigm meeting the user's demand for accessing a shared source comprising adjustable computational sources, such as servers and applied programs. An increase in the costs of information technology, emerging problems with updating software and hardware, and expanded storage volume, make it possible to utilize cloud-based health information cases. Organizations have focused on cloud platform-based services as a new opportunity to develop the software industry for healthcare. The aim of the research is to conduct a bibliometric study of the scientific productions on "health cloud".

Methodology: The present study, applied in nature, was ...
