Generational Perceptions Of Productive/Unproductive Information Received From Management Through Different Communication Channels, Eva Lynn Cowell

Doctoral Dissertations

This exploratory study identified generational preferences for receiving information from management through different communication channels and determined if age predicted productivity for productive and unproductive information received through different communication channels. This is the first study to empirically examine the relationship between age cohorts, communication channel preferences, information categories, and productivity. Librarians, Knowledge Creation, And Scholarship: #11;A Matter Of ‘Ba’ 場, Debbie Morrow 2010 Grand Valley State University

Librarians, Knowledge Creation, And Scholarship: #11;A Matter Of ‘Ba’ 場, Debbie Morrow

Debbie Morrow

How do you engage in professional development? What do you think of expectations for academic librarians to participate in scholarship and dissemination? Do you feel your library’s leadership and organizational structure are adequately supportive of librarians’ efforts to grow and be successful? The role of scholarship in academic librarians’ professional development is examined in the context of a model of knowledge creation borrowed from the corporate world and business expert Ikujiro Nonaka. Tacit and explicit knowledge, knowledge conversion stages, and ‘ba’ –facilitating environments for individual and organizational knowledge growth – are discussed in the context of the presenter’s library.

By striving to highlight news and issues affecting the community, media houses such as Pamoja FM radio station and the Kibera Journal have given a voice to Kibera. Yet with the introduction of innovative media technologies, the distinction between the storyteller and ...
