An Unfit Standard-Bearer:An Unfit Standard-Bearer: Bill Clinton And The Social Order Expectations Of The Religious Right, Douglas J. Swanson Ed.D Apr Apr 1998

An Unfit Standard-Bearer:An Unfit Standard-Bearer: Bill Clinton And The Social Order Expectations Of The Religious Right, Douglas J. Swanson Ed.D Apr

Douglas J. Swanson, Ed.D APR

This paper deals with the rift between the social order of the so-called Religious Right and the perceived social order established and held by President Bill Clinton as he entered his first term in office. The author, applying Duncan's "social order model," suggests Clinton's age, family history, educational background, work experience, domestic life, social circle, and leadership role--in sum, his symbolization of the presidency, presented to the public through the media--represented an unacceptable and irreconcilable affront to "traditional" Christian expectations for the office.

Recompas Y Recontras. Un Análisis De La Violencia Política En La Nicaragua Posrevolucionaria., Salvador Marti I Puig

Salvador Marti i Puig

Fragmentación Política Y Gobierno En Uruguay: ¿Un Enfermo Imaginario?, Daniel Buquet, Daniel Chasquetti, Juan A. Moraes

Daniel Chasquetti

Torture And Eucharist: Theology, Politics, And The Body Of Christ, William Cavanaugh Dec 1997

Torture And Eucharist: Theology, Politics, And The Body Of Christ, William Cavanaugh

William T. Cavanaugh

"Cavanaugh begins with an engrossing analysis of the dynamics of torture and disappearance as a mode disciplining the body politic. He judiciously uses psychological and social scientific sources without letting them override the theological focus of the book. He then gives an equally engrossing account of the Church in Chile under Pinochet. His analyses both of Maritain and the 'New Christendom' ecclesiology provide as interesting critique of the failures of the Church to respond to Pinochet's repression, while his concluding chapter on eucharistic theology points towards the source of the successful responses made by the Church. Particularly useful and ...
