From the 1940s to the 1990s, Japan’s military has undergone serious changes. Reinstitutionalized, defense has grown larger within an American alliance and as a member of the United States containment strategy.3 The United States guaranteed the security of Japan through its nuclear security umbrella and an American commitment of troops to the region. Pendant mon annee d'etude en France, 1994, j'etais une volontaire a l'association Pharmaciens Sans Frontieres a Montpellier. Cette association recupere des medicaments nonusages et non-perimes et les redistribue aux organisations d'aide humanitaire medicale. Cette association possede un bureau dans chaque departement en France, mais son organisation se situe au niveau local. Son existence est possible en France, et non pas aux EtatsUnis, parce que les medicaments (les pilules) delivres seulement par ordonnance sont empaquetes de telle fagon qu'ils resistent a la contamination. "Never Draw Unless You Mean To Shoot": United States Department Of State's Responses To Property Seizures In Latin America, Nathan D. Younge

This thesis examines the U.S. Department of State's diplomatic handling of disputes over the seizure of U.S.-owned property in Latin America between 1937 and 1973. Seizures in Bolivia, Mexico, Guatemala, Cuba, Peru and Chile are used as case studies, and provide examples of successful and unsuccessful diplomatic outcomes.

Modem alliance theory is based on the assumption that states come together in defense against a common threat. However, these theories were developed early in the Cold War in an effort to explain how and why the North Atlantic Treaty Organization was formed.
