Crime Victims In Criminal Justice Curriculum: Are We There Yet?, Lisa Bostaph, Andrew Giacomazzi, Patrick Brady, Christopher Beattie Dec 2013

Crime Victims In Criminal Justice Curriculum: Are We There Yet?, Lisa Bostaph, Andrew Giacomazzi, Patrick Brady, Christopher Beattie

Lisa Growette Bostaph

While theoretical explanations, system response, and policy work on offenders and specific crime types are the backbone of criminal justice curricula in the U.S., a similar breadth and depth of education on crime victims appear to be lacking in traditional criminal justice curricula. This paper reports the results of a national study of 679 randomly selected criminal justice program curricula. Institutional, departmental, and course-level variables indicate that while victim-based research has proliferated, it does not mirror the extent to which victim-based courses are required in criminal justice programs. Theoretical, professional, and policy implications of the results are discussed.

Quem Defende A Constituição?, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha Dec 2011

Quem Defende A Constituição?, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha

Daily Stock Market Movement From Oscillating Social Mood Factors, Cari Bourette Dec 2011

Daily Stock Market Movement From Oscillating Social Mood Factors, Cari Bourette

Cari Bourette

Since 2006, there has been ongoing research into the correlation of a set of oscillating mood factors and socioeconomic, geopolitical, and natural events with the goal of forecasting increased risks of destabilizing events. While promising results have been forthcoming, it has been difficult to present models that allowed those outside a small circle of specialists to participate. Between July 2007 and June 2010, weekly social mood projections, as published in monthly issues of MoodCompass, were used to develop a model to convert four oscillating mood factors into stock market expectations. This model was modified to generate signals of projected stock ...

A Constituição Laboral Em Alto Risco, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha Dec 2011

A Constituição Laboral Em Alto Risco, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha

Between Myths And Reality--Macedonia Between Turkey And The European Union, Marija Đorđeska Dec 2011

Between Myths And Reality--Macedonia Between Turkey And The European Union, Marija Đorđeska

Dr Marija Dordeska

The spirit of Alexander the Great still stirs ghosts between Greece and the Republic of Macedonia. Macedonia is on its way to the EU and Greece represents an obstacle for these processes in the aftermath of the name dispute and the Greek veto on the Macedonian membership in NATO and the European Union. The major asset Greece has in regards to Macedonia is the veto power over the future accession talks Macedonia could have with international organizations, especially with the European Union. Instead of Greece taking Macedonia under its wing, Macedonia continues to be perceived as a threat to Greek ...

Inconstitucionalidade Da Abolição De Feriados, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha Dec 2011

Inconstitucionalidade Da Abolição De Feriados, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha

Citizen Satisfaction Survey Data: A Mode Comparison Of The Derived Importance–Performance Approach, Mitchel Norman Herian, Alan J. Tomkins Dec 2011

Citizen Satisfaction Survey Data: A Mode Comparison Of The Derived Importance–Performance Approach, Mitchel Norman Herian, Alan J. Tomkins

Mitchel Norman Herian

The purpose of this article is to provide evidence regarding the comparability of results provided by two survey methods—a random phone survey and a nonrandom online survey—using the derived importance–performance approach to examine service satisfaction data at the local level. Specifically, we measure whether nonprobability opt-in online survey results produce results that are convergent or divergent to random phone survey results. The findings show that the phone and online survey techniques yield divergent results when simple univariate statistical techniques are employed but produce similar results when the data are analyzed using the more advanced derived importance approach ...

Local Budgeting And Public Participation: Contextual Predictors Of State Laws Mandating Public Input, Mitchel Norman Herian Dec 2011

Local Budgeting And Public Participation: Contextual Predictors Of State Laws Mandating Public Input, Mitchel Norman Herian

Mitchel Norman Herian

This paper examines the political, economic, and institutional variables associated with the presence of state laws that mandate the use of public input in local budgeting. The results show that political and institutional variables can help explain the presence of such laws, but the relationships between variables of interest shift depending on whether laws aimed at cities or counties are the focal point and on which types of public input methods are under consideration. The implications for both theories of public participation in budgeting and intergovernmental relations are discussed within.

Referendar Estados De Excepção, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha Dec 2011

Referendar Estados De Excepção, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha

Behavioral Science Guidelines For Assessing Insider Threats, Denise Bulling, Mario Scalora, Randy Borum, Jill Panuzio, Andrew Donica

Randy Borum

This brochure presents a framework to view threats made by an insider that are targeted or intentional (as opposed to negligent or unintentional) and that involve some degree of deliberation (as opposed to those that may be considered impulsive). The framework was developed with the assumption that it must: Be applicable for both anonymous and known subjects Recognize interactions and patterns of behavior Allow for investigation with whatever information is immediately available Recognize that behaviors or warning activity may shift, decrease, or be emboldened by protective or organizational actions Insider attacks are often handled internal to an organization and are ...

The Challenges Of Electoral Process Institutions Of The Zanzibar And Union Elections Of 1995, 2000 And 2005: Anything New With The Election Expenses Act, 2010?, Conrad John Masabo Mr. Dec 2011

The Challenges Of Electoral Process Institutions Of The Zanzibar And Union Elections Of 1995, 2000 And 2005: Anything New With The Election Expenses Act, 2010?, Conrad John Masabo Mr.

Conrad John Masabo Mr.

Though it is true that elections alone do not guarantee proper functioning of democracies, they are the most convenient means of effecting orderly political successions of office bearers. But for elections to become credible instruments to political succession its adherence to the rules of the game as well as procedures which had been agreed upon by players themselves. In that regard the constitutional and legal framework governing the electoral processes have been always central and among the fundamental issues during elections. They thus constitute most important decrees in setting conditions under which elections are conducted in a country. This paper ...

El Efecto De Las Leyes Electorales Sobre La Fragmentación Partidaria En Chile, 2004‐2008. Voto Estratégico, Barreras A La Entrada E Información., Sergio Y. Toro, Rafael Piñeiro, Mauricio Morales Dec 2011

El Efecto De Las Leyes Electorales Sobre La Fragmentación Partidaria En Chile, 2004‐2008. Voto Estratégico, Barreras A La Entrada E Información., Sergio Y. Toro, Rafael Piñeiro, Mauricio Morales

Sergio Y. Toro

The Oecd And Phases In The International Political Economy, 1961-2011, Judith Clifton, Daniel Díaz-Fuentes Dec 2011

The Oecd And Phases In The International Political Economy, 1961-2011, Judith Clifton, Daniel Díaz-Fuentes

Judith Clifton

In 2011, the OECD turned fifty. To provide a broad foundation for further thinking on this organization, we analyse its evolution over half a century from two perspectives: phases in the international political economy and the literature on IPE. By so doing, we uncover two paradoxes. Firstly, we find that the organization’s evolution closely mirrored major phases in the postwar international political economy until recently. However, the OECD’s long-term dependence on theWest has now become an obstacle to its efforts to adapt to the latest phase, characterised by the rise of non-Western powers. Secondly, we show that, during ...

El Secreto Del Éxito: Presidentes Y Cártles Legislativos En Uruguay, Daniel Chasquetti Dec 2011

El Secreto Del Éxito: Presidentes Y Cártles Legislativos En Uruguay, Daniel Chasquetti

Daniel Chasquetti

In the last two decades the Uruguayan political system has shown a cooperative relationship between the two government branches. he Executives were able to pass their legislative agenda in an eicient way by building cartel-party at the Houses. his article proposes an explanation based on the theoretical developments of Cox and McCubbins (1993 and 2005), about the creation of legislative cartels in Uruguay. In particular, the article explains how constitutes a central authority in the House where the executive holds a dominant inluence, and how that authority usurps and controls the agenda power. I also present new evidence about the ...

Elementos Para Una EconomíA PolíTica Del Republicanismo: Un AnáLisis CríTico De La Renta BáSica De Alaska, David Casassas, Jurgen De Wispelaere

Jurgen De Wispelaere

Staff Of The People? Assessing Progress In Descriptive Representation Under The Obama Administration, José D. Villalobos Nov 2011

Staff Of The People? Assessing Progress In Descriptive Representation Under The Obama Administration, José D. Villalobos

José D. Villalobos

Over the past few decades, presidents have made some increasingly noticeable efforts to fill their administrations with a higher number of minorities. Though not yet fully representative of the general public, such advances in descriptive representation are a sign of progressive change occurring within the executive branch, with positive potential implications for the state of representative democracy and public policy. In this article, I survey the current state of descriptive representation under the Obama presidency and the extent to which the president’s policy agenda has substantively addressed the needs of historically underrepresented groups. Descriptively, I find that President Barack ...

Commentaire Du Livre De Jacques Chevallier « L'État Post-Moderne » (3Ème Édition), Javier Agudo

Javier Agudo

Wiki Leaks Revelations In Global Context—The War Between ‘Right To Publish’ And ‘Ethical Code Of Conduct, Ratnesh Dwivedi Mr

Ratnesh Dwivedi

WikiLeaks is an international non-profit organisation that publishes submissions of private, secret, and classified media from anonymous news sources, news leaks, and whistleblowers. Its website, launched in 2006 under The Sunshine Press organisation claimed a database of more than 1.2 million documents within a year of its launch. WikiLeaks describes its founders as a mix of Chinese dissidents, journalists, mathematicians, and start-up company technologists from the United States, Taiwan, Europe, Australia, and South Africa. Julian Assange, an Australian Internet activist, is generally described as its director. The site was originally launched as a user-editable wiki, but has progressively moved ...
