United In Diversity? The Political Implications Of Intra- Eu Migration, Isabel Monteleone Apr 2016

United In Diversity? The Political Implications Of Intra- Eu Migration, Isabel Monteleone

Senior Theses and Projects

Intra-EU migration is a phenomenon innate to the structure of the European Union. A politico-economic union of twenty-eight countries, the EU does what no other alliance of countries has endeavored before, serving as a unique product of globalization and integration, in every sense of the word. Bound almost entirely by a common currency, the European Union is established in the belief that economic cooperation in Europe can be achieved through the principle of free movement, despite each member states’ individual way of life, language, and political, religious, and cultural ideology.

Since intra-EU migration allows for the possibility of EU integration ...

L’Impatto Dell’Isis Sulle Politiche Interne Italiane, Michael Richard Battista Jr. Apr 2016

L’Impatto Dell’Isis Sulle Politiche Interne Italiane, Michael Richard Battista Jr.

Senior Theses and Projects

I have researched how Italian domestic policies has been impacted by ISIS in recent years, in particular through the lenses of the threat of terrorism, and the refugee crisis. Recent examples include the terrorist attacks in neighboring France and Belgium, and the multilateral agreement to relocate refugees to Turkey. My two hypotheses based on my research are that the threat of terrorism has caused Italian domestic policies to become more conservative, such as attempted bans on religious iconography like the hijab, while the refugee crisis has actually caused resultant policies to become more liberal, such as the ambitious humanitarian program ...

By The Time You Read This, We’Ll All Be Dead: The Failures Of History And Institutions Regarding The 2013-2015 West African Ebola Pandemic., George Denkey

Senior Theses and Projects

Abstract

The 2013 – 2015 Ebola pandemic had a devastating impact on the countries of Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Liberia, with a few regional and global sparks as a result of the 25,178 cases and 10,445 deaths that the epidemic has so far brought upon the three most affected nations by April First 2015. The epidemic has collapsed healthcare systems, economies, and the very social fabric of life within the subregion itself. Logros, Desafíos Y Justicia: La Cultura Política Lgbtq En Argentina E Italia, Michael E. Kozek Jr.

Senior Theses and Projects

Through waves of chain migration in the first-half of the twentieth century, and more recently in the aftermath of the 2001 financial crisis, Argentina and Italy have shared interconnected historical cultural ties with increasing numbers of dual citizens. In this way “lo porteño,” the identity associated with Buenos Aires, has not been very different from “lo italiano” in their cultural intermeshing. This is not to say, however, that each nation does not hold its own unique traditions and histories. The fight for political visibility amongst the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, and Queer (LGBTQ) community has proved to be a schism ...

This thesis explores Chinese Communist Party's political use of history as a fuction to conduce patriotism and to legitimize Party rule. These studies suggested that under the Patriotic Education Campagin and CCP's representation of Japanese right wing textbooks in China, the state has established methods to control the anti-Japanese sentiments to ...

Inside Or Outside The Whale: George Orwell's Art And Polemic, Richard H. Walker

Masters Theses

This chronological study of the evolution of the works of George Orwell is helpful for the futurist, the citizen awash in groupthink, scholars of standpoint epistemology, of mind and nature, of radical humanism, and others. A former British officer and Spanish revolutionary, he became a Democratic Socialist who believed in intellectual freedom above all and was a champion of the common man. Described as the leading exemplar of the public intellectual, he focused on activism vs passivism (and pacifism), and transforming art and politics into cultural power with mind and nature as the foundation. Like few others, he understood cultural ...
