Every year, over eight million people around the world die because they do not have the basic means necessary to sustain their lives. In the most fundamental of terms, poverty is the inherent absence of power within the community that is subject to such conditions. Poverty is far reaching and complex, and takes place at the global, national, local, and individual levels in a variety of forms.
