Social media platforms influence the flow of information and technologically mediated communication during a storm. In 2015, Stewart and Wilson introduced the STREMII (pronounced STREAM-ee) as a six-phase model for social media crisis communication in an eff ort to assist institutions and organizations during unanticipated events, using the crisis of Hurricane Sandy as an applied example. Publicists play a significant role in achieving the short-term and long-term career goals of emerging pop music artists. Therefore, this study researches earned media within the pop music industry through a case study that analyzes the publicity strategies used by the teams of three successful pop music artists. This study finds that publicity is a cost-effective solution to the problems of declining music sales and the need to stand out in a saturated industry, and it provides seven best practices that are supported by industry professionals for publicists to use when creating campaigns that generate awareness and establish reputation.

Hoaxes have long been a reputational threat to organizations. For example, false claims that syringes had been found in bottles of Pepsi-Cola products, that a portion of a fi nger had been found in Wendy’s chili, and that Domino’s employees had intentionally served contaminated food to customers have topped the media’s agenda. Crisis Information Seeking And Sharing (Ciss): Scale Development For Measuring Publics’ Communicative Behavior In Social-Mediated Public Health Crises, Yen-I Lee, Yan Jin

Journal of International Crisis and Risk Communication Research

This study first refines the conceptual framework of publics’ communicative behavior in social mediated health crises. Then two multiple-item scales for measuring publics’ health crisis information seeking and sharing (CISS) are developed and tested by employing online survey data sets from a random national sample of 279 adults and 280 adults in the United States, respectively. Results indicate seven types of crisis information seeking behavior and 17 types of crisis information sharing behavior crossing over platforms, channels, and information sources. An important aspect of crisis communication is secondary crisis communication, which focuses on how people communicate during a crisis. This study seeks to explore the mechanism of credibility in secondary crisis communication. Respondents in a large-scale experiment (N=2382) were exposed to a fictional news story about a terrorist attack and asked to what degree they would share the news story on social media. Between the Spanish-American War and World War II, the United States Marine Corps institutionalized the use of public relations and publicity to craft an elite military identity and to endear the Corps to the American public. The social force of race in relation to natural resources plays a prominent role in which communities are disproportionately affected by pollution. This article applies the crisis renewal model to a multinational organizational crisis in Nigeria not only to analyze the crisis points of conflict in the multinational’s corporate rhetoric but also to examine how global relations; situated exigencies; and cultural, social, and economic tensions contextualize corporate communication strategies during crises. Rhetoric of renewal was evident as the multinational corporation responded to a prolonged crisis involving multiple state and local stakeholders.
