BACKGROUND: Communication between health care provider and patients in oncology presents challenges. Communication skills training have been frequently developed to address those. Given the complexity of communication training, the choice of outcomes and outcome measures to assess its effectiveness is important. The aim of this paper is to 1) perform a systematic review on outcomes and outcome measures used in evaluations of communication training, 2) discuss specific challenges and 3) provide recommendations for the selection of outcomes in future studies.

Technological breakthroughs in the past two decades have ushered in a new era of biomedical research, turning it into an information-rich and technology-driven science. This scientific revolution, though evident to the research community, remains opaque to nonacademic audiences. Such knowledge gaps are likely to persist without revised strategies for science education and public outreach. The Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) Training Program is located at the Eunice K. Shriver Center at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, MA. The CANS Training Program provides training and certification services for the Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS), MassHealth, Children's Behavioral Health Initiative (CBHI). Approximately 23% of Americans over age 12 have some level of hearing loss.1 Emergency departments can reduce healthcare barriers for deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHoH) patients through improved patient-physician communication. Background: Graphic medicine is defined as the “interaction between the medium of comics and the discourse of healthcare”. We seek to understand the ways in which comics are currently being employed in healthcare settings and what effects, if any, these practices have on physician, patient, and their experiences and health outcomes.

Objectives: Graphic medicine refers to the discourse of healthcare by way of the medium of comics and is a growing field with far-reaching impact. OBJECTIVE:

This study analyzes how medical educators search literature, using as an example Balint Groups. Balint Group theory is rooted in psychiatry/psychoanalysis. Drawing from literature on medical educator’s search skills, the authors hypothesize that they have not used a systematic approach in their pre-intervention reviews. Instead, it is expected that researchers use literature conveniently found and readily available. Using a citation analysis, this hypothesis will be explored.
