School Based Mental Health Providers' Perceptions Of Their Training In Serving Lgbtqi Youth, Sarah Eley

This study examined school based mental health workers' pre and post-graduate training around working with LGBTQI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Intersex) youth. This qualitative, exploratory study aimed to explore the gaps and barriers in existing training for those working with LGBTQI youth in schools and discuss the possible outcomes for creating change in historically heterosexist, homophobic, and transphobic learning environments where professionals are trained and where young people come learn. This study explored the following question: How do parents adjust to the disclosure of their child's lesbian, gay, or bisexual identity? The purpose of this study was to focus on the parent of a LGB child in order to understand their reactions to their child's sexuality, their process of adjusting to their child's LGB identity, and to determine the impact it may have on the parents' relationship with their child. Identity Development Among Black Gay Men : The Relationship Between Racial And Sexual Orientation Identity Development, Sandra Lauren Dipillo

This study examined the relationship between racial and sexual orientation identity development among Black gay men. Preliminary research implied that the relationship between these two processes was complex though there was little research that explored it. Fifty-seven Black gay men participated in an anonymous online survey which asked a range of questions about racial and sexual orientation identity as well as the experience of being both Black and gay. Findings indicated that Black gay men experience more internalized homophobia and racism than individuals who are Black or gay but not both.
