The Iowa Farm and Rural Life Poll is an annual survey that collects and disseminates information on issues of importance to rural communities across Iowa and the Midwest. Conducted every year since its establishment in 1982, the Farm Poll is the longest-running survey of its kind in the nation. Iowa State University Extension, the Iowa Agriculture and Home Economics Experiment Station, and the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship are all partners in the Farm Poll effort. This report presents the results of a study of the Iowa State Revolving Fund’s (SRF) Local Water Protection Program (LWPP) and Livestock Water Quality (LWQ) Program. The purpose of the project was to improve understanding of landowner knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to use of the programs’ low-interest loans to finance implementation of agricultural best management practices. The project’s objectives were to 1) examine the effectiveness of the low-interest loan programs, and 2) generate information that could inform efforts to increase their use as tools to help landowners reach their conservation goals. Agritourism is becoming increasingly popular across the country as agricultural producers open their farms to guests seeking entertainment or educational activities. This study obtained current information from prospective agritourism visitors to identify service and amenity preferences of consumers and explore the current level of participation in Iowa agritourism operations. Data were gathered through completion of a voluntary questionnaire handed out to a random sample of Iowa consumers, over the age of 18, attending the 2008 Iowa State Fair.
