The Relationship Between Social Support And Professional Burnout Among Public Secondary School Teachers In Northeast Tennessee, Jackie C. Walker

Teaching is reported to be a stressful occupation and social support is thought to mediate stress. The purpose of the study was to identify relationships between the level of professional burnout and social support of high school teachers in Northeast Tennessee. In this correlational study, a sample of 228 secondary school teachers in Northeast Tennessee completed the Maslach Burnout Inventory and the Teacher Support Network Inventory (TSNI). Respondents' satisfaction with support and amount of support were ascertained from the TSNI. This study examines the relationship between personality traits as identified by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and transformational leadership as measured by The Nature of School Leadership. The subjects were 74 North Carolina public school elementary principals. The principals completed the MBTI. Principals also provided pertinent demographic information. Selected teachers in each school were asked to give their perception of the principal as a transformational leader by completing The Nature of School Leadership. This study assessed discrepancies between residential employees' work values and program directors' perceptions of the residential employees' work values. Additionally, work values of residential employees were analyzed to identify variations when considering gender, age, educational level, length of service, job classification, and current position. This study examines the impact of state mandates on teachers' levels of use of the National Standards for United States History (hereafter referred to as the "Standards"). This evaluative study looks at the Kampala (Uganda) Schools' Improvement Project (SIP) . The purpose of the project, which lasted from 1994 to 1997, was to improve the quality of teaching and learning in Kampala primary schools by promoting and then institutionalizing the adoption of child-centered teaching methods and resources in project schools. Project strategies involved training teachers in workshop settings, providing instructional materials to support learning, and providing on-the-job training and follow-up support for teachers. This study of African American undergraduates at Emory & Henry College, Tusculum College, Western Carolina University, East Tennessee State University, Appalachian State University, and University of North Carolina at Asheville was conducted to determine students' stages of identity development, level of involvement in campus activities, and demographic characteristics within historically White Southern Appalachian colleges and universities, both public and independent. This study was conducted to document equity attitudes of public school stakeholders (PSS) and compare them to attitudes of Americans in general. In all, 1014 PSS (school board members, district superintendents, school principals, teachers, and parents) representing 323 school districts responded via a 67-item questionnaire. Major areas were affirmative action, opportunity perceptions, reasons for poverty and wealth, and redistribution of income. Sample: stratified random selection of 683 public school districts in 41 states representative of the nation. Hypotheses. This research study analyzed the growth of the cognitive critical thinking skills of college calculus students from six sections of Calculus 165 at Iowa State University. For one semester subjects from three experimental sections learned calculus in a consistently facilitated active learning environment. Subjects from three comparison sections learned the same material in a traditional passive learning environment. Fidelity of treatment--i.e. adherence to an active learning format, was verified by direct observations.
