With Careful Consideration And Managed Expectations: Migration From Ex Libris' Voyager To Ex Libris' Alma/Primo, Julene L. Jones

Library Presentations

The University of Kentucky migrated from their long-standing ILS, Ex Libris Voyager with SFX, to Ex Libris Alma (and Primo) in six short months! As the person who runs reports and performs authority control and batch changes to UK’s MARC metadata for print resources, Julene was responsible for migrating that metadata so that it displayed well in Alma / Primo with minimal data loss, for training all library faculty and staff on the use of Resource Management and Analytics, and for coordinating the multitude of migration events with the Systems, Acquisitions, Circulation, Electronic Resources, and ILL librarians. She will describe ...

Acquisitions In Alma: Transitioning From Voyager To Alma, Kate Seago

Alma offers some advantages to Acquisitions particularly for managing electronic workflows and communicating with vendors. However, transitioning from Voyager to Alma and learning Alma’s nuances was challenging as we reworked workflows.

Starting Over: Coding To Work With Alma After Voyager, Kathryn Lybarger

Library Presentations

When the University of Kentucky was a Voyager library, I wrote a variety of tools to support our processes, ranging from tiny one-line macros to larger software packages. Now that we've migrated to Alma/Primo, everything has changed! Many of the ways I extended Voyager are part of Alma by default, and Alma's community (and available APIs) encourage even further development. In this presentation, I will describe some differences between the two systems, how they affected the types of support tools I wanted, and the ways I was able to create them.

"Forgive And Forget": Cleaning House With Circ Jobs 39 And 42, Tari Keller

Library Presentations

We started using the purge job to remove old patron records with SSNs, as a first step toward removing the numbers in all our patron records. With new state laws, we are trying to eliminate as many privacy issues as we can by deleting records for patrons who are not currently using the libraries. The Commonwealth of Kentucky has a statute of limitations of 5 years on small fines. We forgive fines older than 5 years by running the Fine Forgive program at the beginning of the Fall Semester each year.

I plan to show using command, crontab and WebAdmin ...

Personalizing Voyager Using Browser Extensions, Kathryn Lybarger May 2015

Personalizing Voyager Using Browser Extensions, Kathryn Lybarger

Library Presentations

If there is a complex web site that you use frequently, you may be able to simplify your work using web browser extensions! In this presentation I will describe a few types of browser extensions (including OpenSearch and GreaseMonkey), and give examples of how I have used them to speed up (and otherwise improve) Voyager on the web for cataloging staff, all without needing any special server access. Similar methods could be used for other web-based systems, such as Primo and Alma.

The newest module in the Voyager suite, Global Data Change, allows for batch editing of bibliographic, holdings and authority records. The University of Kentucky Libraries has used this module since 2012, and will share specifics about the top ten (or so) projects that have been implemented using this module. Projects include several significant enhancements to bibliographic variable fields, including changes due to RDA implementation, record deletion, location changes after collections have been moved, the removal of obsolete information, the addition of local standard notes, and the addition of authorized access points.

The Encore Experience: Using A Third Party Discovery Tool With Aleph And Voyager: Voyager, Tari Keller

Library Presentations

During 2007, the University of Kentucky worked with Innovative Interfaces as a development partner to make the Encore product a viable alternative search tool with Voyager. The project involved programming work to develop and automate extract scripts, as well as extensive testing for accuracy and functionality of the interface with the ILS data. This presentation will briefly describe the project and demonstrate Encore with Voyager. The audience will learn general concepts and considerations to keep in mind when working with third party products.
