Unveiling The Past: Using Lidar To Discover Lost Archaeological Features In The American Southeast, Dylan S. Davis

GIS Day

Artificial mounds and rings are morphologically heterogeneous. While they share many compositional traits, their outlines on landscapes widely vary across geographic regions. As such, automated identification of these deposits requires the use of algorithms that are capable of evaluating a range of criteria and assessing objects that fall within acceptable ranges for each analyzed attribute. Object-based image analysis (OBIA) is one solution to this problem. Here, I develop a combined OBIA method utilizing two different approaches – multiresolution segmentation and template matching – in order to locate these features semi-automatically. The results of this study indicate the success of this method for ...

Yellowing The Logarithm: How Money Solved The Problem Of Freedom, Neil S. Agarwal

All Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

This dissertation is on the historical development of a co-constitutive relationship between money as the form of appearance of value and race as the form of appearance of human difference. It demonstrates this relationship through a study of experiments with monetary value in eighteenth-century British America. At a time when Bank of England notes circulated primarily among merchants and within London, colonial freeholders issued paper currencies through representative assemblies and posited a link between this enterprise and the well-being of a larger provincial community within which their bills would circulate. Uzee Brown And His Society Of Choraliers, William S. Dula, Aaron Carter-Enyi, Uzee Brown Jr.

Africana Digital Ethnography Project

Uzee Brown, Professor and Chair of the Morehouse College Department of Music, talks about growing up in the Piedmont region of South Carolina. Once he came to Morehouse, Prof. Wendell P. Whalum encouraged him to pursue research on the oral traditions of South Carolina and he saw the folk music he grew up with in a new light. This has culminated in a collection of rare spirituals which he has arranged and recorded with his choir, the Uzee Brown Society of Choraliers.
