Detection And Relative Distribution Of Ringtails (Bassaricus Astutus) In Zion National Park, Utah, Adrian A. Roadman, S. Nicki Frey

All Current Publications

Very little is known about ringtails (Bassariscus astutus) in Zion National Park), including their distribution within park boundaries. We combined trail cameras and a novel track plate method to determine the occupancy and distribution of ringtails in Zion National Park, in southwestern Utah. Both methods successfully detected ringtails in various habitats sampled.

Utah's Sage-Grouse Habitat Mitigation Program, Lorien Belton, Tyler Thompson

All Current Publications

This fact sheet is intended for an audience of rural landowners in Utah who have sage-grouse habitat -- or possible sage-grouse habitat -- on their land. Landowners who are interested in earning credits for habitat improvement projects done on their land may be able to sell those credits to others who have created permanent disturbance to sage-grouse habitat elsewhere in Utah. Basic information about Utah's state program for compensatory mitigation of sage-grouse habitat is provided, including core qualifications to participate in the program, and how to get more detailed information.

Nebraska Cooperative Fish & Wildlife Research Unit -- Staff Publications

Recreational fisheries (RF) are complex social-ecological systems that play an important role in aquatic environments while generating significant social and economic benefits around the world. The nature of RF is diverse and rapidly evolving, including the participants, their priorities and behaviors, and the related ecological impacts and social and economic benefits. RF can lead to negative ecological impacts, particularly through overexploitation of fish populations and spread of non-native species and genotypes through stocking. Hence, careful management and monitoring of RF is essential to sustain these ecologically and socioeconomically important resources. This special issue on recreational fisheries contains diverse research, syntheses ...

Justice Served Fresh: Associations Between Food Insecurity, Community Gardening, And Property Value, Micajah Daniels, Courtney Coughenour Phd

McNair Poster Presentations

Numerous stakeholders in Nevada have used a variety of efforts to combat the growth of food insecurity facing Nevadans. Following the wealth of scholarship on these topics and data collected from community garden agencies in Southern Nevada, the research questions for this project include: (1) Where are community gardens located in SNV? (2) What efforts community gardens agencies are doing to address food insecurity (most interested in their efforts using community gardens)? (3) What are the perceptions of supports and barriers ...

The Rationale For Taxpayer Support For Primary Industry Research And Innovation In Western Australia, Ross Kingwell Sep 2018

The Rationale For Taxpayer Support For Primary Industry Research And Innovation In Western Australia, Ross Kingwell

Research Reports

During the 2000s a common view in government circles was that governments were over-investing in primary industry research and innovation. In agreement with this view, the Western Australian (WA) government lessened its support for primary industry research and innovation over the last decade. The impacts of this reduced support are seen clearly in the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD). In 2008–09 its agricultural staff count was 1518, yet by the end of 2017–18 this will be under 800, with remaining staff working mostly in regulation, biosecurity and corporate services rather than research. So great has ...

Food Waste Posing A Serious Threat To Sustainability In The Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia – A Systematic Review, Mirza B. Baig, Khodran H. Al-Zahrani, Felicitas Schneider, Gary S. Straquadine, Marie Mourad

Applied Sciences, Technology and Education Faculty Publications

Worldwide, food waste is one of the prime issues threatening food security and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) is not an exception. With 427 kg of food wasted per capita per year, the country ranks among the top food wasters. Ironically, the Kingdom has limited arable lands and scarce water resources to support mass-scale agriculture and to feed its increasing population, KSA relies heavily on imports and subsidized food to meet needs. Yet, food is wasted at restaurants, caterers, cafeterias and, especially, by households such that food waste is the single-largest component of the landfills. The review article is ...
