Adoption Of Improved Livestock Production Practices In The Peruvian Amazonia: An Econometric Analysis , Alfredo G. Riesco

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Successive Peruvian Administrations have pursued the development of frontier lands in the Amazonia. There are concerns, however, about the socio-economic and technological path of this process. Settlers opt for a variety of farming systems that are in general multioutput in nature and where cattle is an important component; An econometric model is developed to understand the determinants of choice of main activities and technology. The model is based on expected utility theory, taken into consideration concepts of subjective probabilities and perceptions. The analysis considers a system of choice variables related to the demand for inputs, allowing for corner solutions. The ...

Plan And Market(S): A Theoretical Model Of The Chinese Grain Economy , Dabai Chen

Canadian Agriculture Factor Retention Under Different Policy Regimes , Janice Eileen Krakar Jan 1990

Canadian Agriculture Factor Retention Under Different Policy Regimes , Janice Eileen Krakar

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The study explores the implications different Canadian policy regimes have for agriculture resource markets. Particular attention is focused on agriculture labor retention. Two markedly different policy regimes are analyzed: a continuation of the current commodity specific policy setting and a decoupled policy setting which is composed purely of lump sum transfers to farm operator labor. The amount of income transferred to agriculture producers in the decoupled policy setting is set equal to the compensating variation associated with current policies. The compensating variation is determined as the difference between Canadian producers net income when all countries, inclusive of Canada, continue with ...

Section I. The impact of the U.S. wheat export enhancement program on the world wheat market. The U.S. Export Enhancement Program (EEP) was included in the 1985 U.S. Food Security Act with a major objective being to increase sales of U.S. agricultural commodities. Through the EEP, the U.S. government subsidizes exports of agricultural commodities to targeted importing countries. The EEP was applied to the majority of U.S. wheat sales in 1987/88 and 1988/89. Coincident with the 1985 act and EEP legislation, U.S. wheat exports have increased significantly. This study uses a ...

Interregional Analysis Of Integrated Crop, Livestock, And Forest Production: A Goal Programming Model , Jianbang Gan

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

To satisfy our demand for food and fiber and at the same time to protect the environment on which our lives depend are the two critical issues facing us today. In this study, a sequential linear goal programming model is developed and used to examine the optimal land allocation among agricultural and forest production activities, the land use shifts between agriculture and forestry sectors, and the best management strategies for the nation's forest and range ecosystems under the alternative policies; This national level model consists of six sectors: crop, livestock, forest and range, resource availability, demand, and environment. Four ...

Agronomic Research And Productivity Growth In Post Green Revolution Agriculture , Gregory J. Traxler

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation presents a methodology for measuring the impact of crop management research on agricultural productivity. The relationship between specific research projects and increases in producer surplus are identified. The methodology is used to derive an estimate of the return to public investment in crop management research in the Yaqui Valley of Sonora, Mexico; The impact of the crop management research effort is examined by looking at changes in producers' practices 1981-1989 using farm survey data. An examination of changes in producers' practices and modifications in crop management recommendations showed that only two practices were modified because of new research ...
