The Reproductive Performance Of Milk Goats Fed A Ration Deficient In Vitamin E , John Lincoln Wilson Jan 1935

The Reproductive Performance Of Milk Goats Fed A Ration Deficient In Vitamin E , John Lincoln Wilson

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Six female milk goats were placed on a ration in which the vitamin E had been destroyed by treatment with ferric chloride dissolved in ether. These females together with their offspring were kept on the vitamin E deficient ration exclusively over a period of two years; The ferric chloride treated ration fed to the goats was tested with rats to determine if the ferric chloride treatment had been successful in the destruction of vitamin E. Out of the 97 gestations by test rats on the goat ration, 89 resulted in resorptions, 2 resulted in litters which were due to failure ...

An Analysis Of The Expenditures Of South Dakota Counties From 1919 To 1935, George H. Phillips Jan 1935

An Analysis Of The Expenditures Of South Dakota Counties From 1919 To 1935, George H. Phillips

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Three important studies are involved in an investigation of the cost of a governmental unit. These are expenditures, receipts, and indebtedness. The result of the three studies, properly coordinated, will yield what is known in public finance as "net expenditures" or, if the government under scrutiny should meet with favorable financial conditions, the final study might result in "net receipts". This study will consider only that phase of the cost of government which can be arrived at through an analysis of the gross expenditures of the counties of South Dakota. The term "expenditures" as used herein will, therefore, be taken ...

Some Factors Involved In The Manufacture Of Brick Cheese, George F. Jackson Aug 1934

Some Factors Involved In The Manufacture Of Brick Cheese, George F. Jackson

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The flavor, quality and composition of market brick cheese varies greatly. Its moisture content often ranges from 37 to 43 per cent. The flavor may be similar to Limburger or it may even resemble that of Cheddar. Such a great variation in a specific food product tends toward disappointment for the consumer.

It is believed that a more uniform standard of quality for this product is needed to materially increase its consumption. Therefore, a detailed study of some of the factors involved in the manufacture of brick cheese may help to improve the quality and aid in determining a satisfactory ...

Studies On The Comparative Value Of The Hot Treatment (Krantz Patent) And Common Methods Of Handling Barnyard Manure, Orval E. Winkler

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Antidating written human history the dung of animals, chalk, marl, wood ashes and other substances were probably used to increase the productivity of the soil. These practises found their way into the earliest farming activities of the Chinese, Persians, Greeks and Romans. (3)(11) In the Hebrew scriptures mention is made of the "Dung Gate". (10) This was undoubtedly a place given to the marketing of manures. That manure was used as a soil amendment in Asia Minor in Biblical times is not questioned. The famous Roman agricultural writer Cato (234 B.C.) wrote at length on manures and their ...

The Bacteriophage: Its Phenomenon, Nature, And Behavior, W. Vincent Meyer Apr 1934

The Bacteriophage: Its Phenomenon, Nature, And Behavior, W. Vincent Meyer

Life and Environmental Sciences Undergraduate Theses

In introducing the phenomenon of the bacteriophage, we shall first consider the circumstances which offered a veiled suggestion that such a phenomenon existed. The first instance in which this action was observed was in the course of the investigation of a bacterial disease affecting locusts. The disease was first noted in Mexico in 1909 where whole swarms of the insects succumbed to the infection (1). The disease, as it occurred naturally was primarily a septicemic condition, accompanied by intestinal disturbances. The pathogenic microorganism, Coccobacillus acridiorum, was present in the intestinal fluids in great abundance. Inasmuch as these locusts constitute an ...

Some Correlations Between Hypnotic Action And Chemical Constitution , William Glen Bywater

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

A review of theories of narcosis has been made, and some correlations between constitution and activity have been presented for the aliphatic hypnotics; The close and important relationship of dibenzofuran and its derivatives to morphine has been discussed. The following derivatives to morphine has been discussed. The following derivatives to morphine has been discussed. The following derivatives of dibenzofuran haven been prepared for use in physiological tests: 2-, 3-, and 4-amino-, 2- and 3-hydroxy-dibenzofuran, and 2- and 3-dibenzofurancarboxylic acids;A necessary study of nuclear substitution in dibenzofuran has been made prior to the preparation of derivatives for physiological tests. It ...

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Rats killed by illuminating gas were found to have 80 percent carbon monoxide hemogloblin;Rats allowed to recover in air after breathing for one hour a 1.43 percent illuminating gas-air mixture lost 30 percent of the carbon monoxide hemoglobin in the second half hour, and five percent more in the third half hour; The hemoglobin and the red cell volume rose in response to the daily breathing of 1.43 percent illuminating gas;Rats subjected to a long duration of daily periods of breathing illuminating gas showed a slightly increased fragility of the erythrocytes; The gassed male rats at ...
