Regeneration Data: Rna Sequences, Abijeet Singh Mehta, Amit Singh Jan 2019

Regeneration Data: Rna Sequences, Abijeet Singh Mehta, Amit Singh

Regeneration data

Abstract for paper for which this research was collected: Notophthalmus viridescens (Red-spotted Newt) possess amazing capabilities to regenerate their organs and other tissues. Previously, using a de novo assembly of the newt transcriptome combined with proteomic validation, we identified a novel family of 5 protein members expressed in adult tissues during regeneration in Notophthalmus viridescens. Due to absence of transgenic approaches in the Notophthalmus, and conservation of genetic machinery across species, we generated transgenic Drosophila melanogaster to misexpress these genes.

Samples for RNA sequencing were collected at third instar larval (L3) developmental stage. Out of the total 36,099 transcript ...

Living Shoreline Stabilization To Increase Resiliency At De Soto National Memorial, Linda Walters, Melinda Donnelly, Christian Pilato, Suzanne Connor Dec 2018

Living Shoreline Stabilization To Increase Resiliency At De Soto National Memorial, Linda Walters, Melinda Donnelly, Christian Pilato, Suzanne Connor

CEELAB Research Data

De Soto National Memorial (Bradenton, FL) is an important location where both Native Americans and De Soto's army of soldiers once lived. We have been working closely with the National Park Service and the University of Central Florida to understand how to best stabilize this shoreline using living shoreline techniques combined with long-term natural recruitment. Stabilizing De Soto's shoreline is essential to decrease erosion and shoreline loss to protect the Park's cultural and natural resources, especially the numerous historically significant shell middens. Through pre-restoration monitoring, we determined that high-energy boat wakes were limiting natural mangrove recruitment. Lack ...

Dna Sequences Of The Mitochondrial Cytochrome C Oxidase I (Coi) Genes From Deep Sea Fishes, Cruises Dp03 And Dp04 From May 2016 - August 2016, Max Weber, Kimberly A. Finnegan, Andrea Bernard, Ron Eytan, Mahmood S. Shivji Feb 2018

Shivji

DEEPEND Datasets

The deep sea ecosystem is believed to contain the highest biomass of fish in the oceans. However, the taxonomic diversity in this ecosystem is incompletely described and likely to be vastly underestimated. DNA sequence data (barcodes) have become a key tool to discover hidden biodiversity. We generated mitochondrial DNA barcode datasets based on the Cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) gene from deep sea fishes. These data were analyzed using phylogenetic and statistical methods to reveal cryptic species and make taxonomic linkages between adult fishes and their early life stages. These datasets were generated from fishes collected in the northern Gulf ...

Mitochondrial And Nuclear Sequences For Phylogenetic Analysis Of Three Cephalopod Species, Northern Gulf Of Mexico, May 2015 To May 2017, Amanda Sosnowki

DEEPEND Datasets

The midwater column contains a wide diversity of cephalopods in the northern Gulf of Mexico. DNA sequence data (barcodes) have become a key tool to discover hidden biodiversity. We generated mitochondrial DNA barcode datasets based on the Cytochrome c oxidase I (COI), 16s, and 28s genes from cephalopods. These data were analyzed using phylogenetic methods to examine possible connectivity of 3 species (Vampyroteuthis infernalis, Pyroteuthis margaritifera, and Cranchia scabra) between two basins, the Gulf of Mexico and the area surrounding Bear Seamount in the northwestern Atlantic Ocean. These datasets were generated from cephalopods collected in the northern Gulf of Mexico ...

Release From Intraspecific Competition Promotes Dominance Of A Non-Native Invader, Robert Warren Jan 2018

Release From Intraspecific Competition Promotes Dominance Of A Non-Native Invader, Robert Warren

Biology Faculty Datasets

Species can coexist through equalizing (similar fitness abilities) and stabilizing (unique niche requirements) mechanisms – assuming that intraspecific competition imposes more limitation than interspecific competition. Non-native species often de-stabilize coexistence, suggesting that they bring either a fitness advantage or a distinct niche requirement. We tested whether greater fitness or unique niche requirements best explained a successful North American invasion by the European Myrmica rubra ant. North American invaded-range M. rubra aggressively sting and occur in enormous numbers (suggesting a fitness advantage), yet our study site has a history of anthropogenic disturbance that might favor M. rubra (suggesting a unique niche). We ...

Interacting Effects Of Urbanization And Coastal Gradients On Ant Thermal Responses, Robert Warren Jan 2018

Interacting Effects Of Urbanization And Coastal Gradients On Ant Thermal Responses, Robert Warren

Biology Faculty Datasets

Urban-to-rural gradients intersect with other, often unmeasured, environmental gradients that may influence or even supersede species responses. Here we use coastal-to-interior and urban-rural gradients to investigate woodland ant response (physiological thermal tolerance, community structure and spring phenology) to two overlapping thermal gradients, the Great Lakes (Erie and Ontario) and the Buffalo, NY urban center (USA). Woodland ant physiological and behavioral responses, and community responses, shifted along the coastal-to-interior and urban-rural gradients, but they were generally best explained by lake effects (though urban ants tolerated higher temperatures than rural ants). The relatively colder spring temperatures in coastal areas (as compared to ...

Comparison Of Porifera Bacterial Symbiont Community Profiles Based On Host Species And Source Template, Celeste Banfill, Jose Lopez Jan 2018

Comparison Of Porifera Bacterial Symbiont Community Profiles Based On Host Species And Source Template, Celeste Banfill, Jose Lopez

Lopez Laboratory: Genomics & Microbial Data

The present microbiome study reports a follow up microbiome characterization of the Porifera Tree of Life (PorToL) project, which has recognized the significance of understanding the evolutionary relationships among diverse sponge taxa (Redmond et al 2012; Thacker et al, 2013; and see http://portol.org). The aim of this research is to opportunistically expand on the work of Hill et al. (2013) to provide preliminary data that 1) compares the diversity of bacterial communities across eight sponge taxa and 2) compares the differences between DNA and cDNA (RNA) generated 16S rRNA data to distinguish active vs. non-active bacteria.

Tissue Expression Patterns Identify Mouse Cilia Genes, Timothy S. Mcclintock Jan 2018

Tissue Expression Patterns Identify Mouse Cilia Genes, Timothy S. Mcclintock
