Management Of Security Policies For Mobile Devices, Andrew Green Sep 2007

Management Of Security Policies For Mobile Devices, Andrew Green

Andrew Green

This paper discusses management of security policies for mobile devices. The increasing use of mobile devices in the workplace is covered, as well as new software applications that allow employees to use their mobile devices to increase their productivity. Various risks to businesses arising from compromised mobile devices are discussed. Mobile devices are defined, as are some common attack vectors currently present in most devices. A framework for creating mobile device security policies is discussed, and sample policy language for mobile devices is offered.

Risk Assessment For Hazardous Materials Incident, Washington County, Tennessee: Road Transportation, Rail Transportation, And Hazardous Materials Storage., Steed Kenlee Stagnolia Aug 2007

Risk Assessment For Hazardous Materials Incident, Washington County, Tennessee: Road Transportation, Rail Transportation, And Hazardous Materials Storage., Steed Kenlee Stagnolia

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This study was conducted to provide a quantitative risk assessment for road transportation, railway transportation, and storage of hazardous materials in Washington County, Tennessee. A roadside survey, railroad hazardous materials survey, and a chemical inventory were conducted. It revealed an estimated 267,858 HAZMAT shipments per year on primary and secondary roadways and an estimated total of 9.4 x 109 tons of HAZMAT shipped by rail per year. There are 49 facilities that store a daily average of 33,722,700 lbs of HAZMAT. The risk of a hazardous materials incident occurring in Washington County is highest for Interstate ...

Goals And Plans In Decision Making, David H. Krantz, Howard Kunreuther Jun 2007

Goals And Plans In Decision Making, David H. Krantz, Howard Kunreuther

Operations, Information and Decisions Papers

We propose a constructed-choice model for general decision making. The model departs from utility theory and prospect theory in its treatment of multiple goals and it suggests several different ways in which context can affect choice.

It is particularly instructive to apply this model to protective decisions, which are often puzzling. Among other anomalies, people insure against non-catastrophic events, underinsure against catastrophic risks, and allow extraneous factors to influence insurance purchases and other protective decisions. Neither expected-utility theory nor prospect theory can explain these anomalies satisfactorily. To apply this model to the above anomalies, we consider many different insurance-related goals ...

Uncertainty Assessment In High-Risk Environments Using Probability, Evidence Theory And Expert Judgment Elicitation, Stella Barberis Bondi Apr 2007

Uncertainty Assessment In High-Risk Environments Using Probability, Evidence Theory And Expert Judgment Elicitation, Stella Barberis Bondi

Engineering Management & Systems Engineering Theses & Dissertations

The level of uncertainty in advanced system design is assessed by comparing the results of expert judgment elicitation to probability and evidence theory. This research shows how one type of monotone measure, namely Dempster-Shafer Theory of Evidence can expand the framework of uncertainty to provide decision makers a more robust solution space. The issues imbedded in this research are focused on how the relevant predictive uncertainty produced by similar action is measured.

This methodology uses the established approach from traditional probability theory and Dempster-Shafer evidence theory to combine two classes of uncertainty, aleatory and epistemic. Probability theory provides the mathematical ...

Sleepers Exposed: New Innovations In Rail Design, Sakdirat Kaewunruen Jan 2007

Sleepers Exposed: New Innovations In Rail Design, Sakdirat Kaewunruen

Sakdirat Kaewunruen

No one would deny that our rail network makes life much easier, and trains are widely considered to be the world's safest mode of transport. Bearing this in mind, the idea of decreasing the weight of railway sleepers, or increasing the load they carry may make passengers and associates of the rail industry sceptical as regards their own safety or the integrity of their goods and assets.
