The purpose of the study was to use the Rasch procedure of item calibration to select test items in consumer and homemaking education, and to compile the items in a form usable by secondary teachers for assessing student achievement;From a pool of 230 items, five forms of a comprehensive achievement test were developed and administered to 1039 students who each responded to one form. Purposes of this study were to describe the nutrient intake of upper elementary children by age and sex and to demonstrate criterion-related validity for the performance device, What I Usually Eat (National Dairy Council and Iowa State University, 1980). The device was designed to be used by teachers as an alternative method for estimating children's food intake;The parents of the 67 fourth and sixth graders who participated in the study kept detailed 7-day food records of their children's food intake. The purpose of this study was to experimentally evaluate the implementation of a unit exploring entrepreneurship as a career option in secondary vocational home economics programs. The study was conducted in three phases which included: (1) research on home economics related small businesses and their owners, (2) pilot test of the career exploration unit on entrepreneurship, and (3) field test of the unit in twelve secondary vocational home economics classes;A survey was conducted to determine characteristics of home economics related small businesses and their owners in Iowa. Two inventories to assess sexuality attitudes were developed. The first assessed attitudes toward teaching sexuality education; the second, attitudes toward sexuality. The inventories were used to determine sexuality attitudes of Iowa-high-school-home-economics teachers. Also examined were relationships among these attitudes, selected demographic variables, and the degree to which 25 sexuality topics were taught;A purposive sample of Iowa-vocational-high-school-home-economics teachers was used.
