Predictors Of Employer Satisfaction With Workplace-Based Contract Training Programs At Community And Technical Colleges In West Virginia, Mark Edward Davis

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

Workplace-based contract training for employers is a growing area of the mission of community and technical colleges across the nation, and determining what factors predict satisfaction for sponsoring organizations may help ensure the success of such programs. This is especially important in West Virginia, where higher education legislation in 1995 and 2000 mandated such programming as essential. State institutions that fail in this area may lose their status as independent colleges. Community and technical colleges, therefore, that use data from this study may be able to design and deliver workplace-based contract education and training programs, using limited existing resources, efficiently ...

Empowering Lifelong Learners Through Knowledge Of Individual Learning Processes: A Case Study At One Community College , Ellengray Gutzman Kennedy

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

According to Armstrong (1999), almost all students struggle at one point or another in their academic careers. True learning often eludes students due to ineffective study strategies, poor understanding of teacher expectations, limited knowledge of individual learning preferences, and a general confusion over what is superfluous and what is meaningful. The purpose of this study was to determine if students can learn strategies that enhance their ability to learn, reduce intimidation and, thus, manage stress during the learning process in order to maximize learning potential.;The case study method (Yin, 1994) was selected, with the research site being a small ...

A Comparison Of The Enrollment, Persistence And Transfer Rates Of White And Minority Students At Des Moines Area Community College , Kim Jeanine Linduska

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The role of the community college has been to unlock the doors of education opportunity for all individuals, and provide the entry point to higher education. Community colleges are the primary gateway to education for many of our minority and first generation students. Reflecting national trends, enrollment of minority students in Iowa's community colleges is increasing. The available transfer data demonstrate the low participation and transfer rates of minority students in community colleges and in higher education, in general, in Iowa. A detailed analysis of the number of minority students enrolling, and persisting in community colleges and transferring to ...

Community College Finance: Current Funds Revenue Sources In 11 Midwest States In The Decade Of The 1990s , Carol Noel Piper Kenton

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Twelve current funds revenue sources utilized by 212 community colleges in 11 Midwest states during the decade of the 1990s were analyzed, using data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), available on the Internet. Comparisons were made by state as well as time, using the two-way analysis of variance. Of particular interest were trends in the proportions of student tuition and fees, and state and/or local appropriations from 1990 to 1995 to 2000. Also examined was the states' use of alternative funding sources to compensate for a possible reduction in government appropriations. Different funding models within the ...
