The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the experiences of community college students and their development of the concept of information literacy. The participants' individual definition of information literacy was explored as well as the people, places, and events that helped shape their concept of information literacy. Data were gathered applying narrative inquiry using a combination of interviews and document analysis. Twelve current funds revenue sources utilized by 212 community colleges in 11 Midwest states during the decade of the 1990s were analyzed, using data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), available on the Internet. Comparisons were made by state as well as time, using the two-way analysis of variance. Of particular interest were trends in the proportions of student tuition and fees, and state and/or local appropriations from 1990 to 1995 to 2000. In 2002, the State of Iowa is developing guidelines for implementation of the Accountability Government Action, House File 687. This legislation will require all state departments to develop planning and accountability strategies that will fit within the overall direction of state government. Nursing students enter the community college setting with multiple and different roles, and continue to fulfill the responsibilities associated with those roles. This descriptive study attempted to assess the nursing students' understanding of their roles, and the barriers and resources they encountered as they fulfilled their roles or delegated the responsibilities associated with those roles to family and friends. This study of the impact of community college general education, semester hours on student critical thinking ability responded to national and regional research recommendations in analysis of three components: (1) critical thinking, (2) general education, and (3) community college. Student critical thinking ability was measured by student scores on the ACT Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency (CAAP) Critical Thinking component exam. This study was conducted at Northwest Iowa Community College (NCC), located in Sheldon, Iowa. Northwest Iowa Community College serves a 4 1/2 county rural area. In December of 1992 NCC placed a seven million dollar bond issue before the voters. This referendum which needed a 60% plus one voter approval received a 36.41% approval. Campaign strategies for the 1992 referendum included a targeting of possible affirmative voters.
