Losing The Way, Finding The Way, Gene Washington

:10 minute play. 3 characters. Losing one thing and finding another is central to most religions: The thing found, or arrived at, has many names, "enlightenment," "salvation," "the city of God" (Augustine). (Compare the Christian paradox, "the way up is the way down.") The things lost are familiar, routine, things that have no significance beyond their presence…their warmth, if any, only warms themselves. Auden's great poem, "O where are you going" (a few lines quoted above) was an influence on the author's decision to use the "off-road" metaphor to structure the play and to "perform" the idea ...
