The Attention Crisis Of Digital Interfaces And How To Consume Media More Mindfully, Kristen M. Liu

Scripps Senior Theses

Digital forms of media are monopolizing individuals' attention spans, utilizing visual strategies that demand our interactions. Throughout the history of media technology, mediums have become increasingly immersive, presenting more information than ever before. The user interface designs of digital platforms can damage our ability to focus and distribute attention in meaningful ways. Through analysis of our digital media consumption, this capstone project ultimately proposes mindful practices that help us lead more balanced lives and thrive in the digital age. The second half of this capstone project is a digital zine with digital illustrations, animations, and editorial-style articles. The digital zine ...

Book Review: The Drama Of The Portrait: Theater And Visual Culture In Early Modern Spain (Review), Chad M. Gasta

World Languages and Cultures Publications

The first thought that comes to mind when one picks up The Drama of the Portrait by Laura R. Bass is how attractive it is: beautifully bound in red cloth and protected by a lovely dust jacket, the book does not automatically look like a critical study of early modern Spanish drama. And, indeed, with 67 illustrations, nearly all in glossy color, one might mistake it for an art book. From these first impressions through the final pages, The Pennsylvania State University Press and its author are to be commended for giving us such a fine book.

If the appearance ...

What would anybody with the slightest interest in Native American history and culture not give to have visited an Omaha village with Joseph La Fleche, learned to pain from Karl Bodmer, and spent evenings with Edwin Denig? Rudolph Kurz did all of this, worked in the fur trade on the Missouri River, painted what he saw, and, most importantly, left a journal of his observations, travels, and insights. It is this journal that now is available again, in an edited and abridged version fro the University of Oklahoma Press. The full English version of the journal was published as Bulletin ...
