Jesus Music: The Story Of The Jesus Movement And Evaluation Of Its Musical Impact, Shimon K. Galiley

Senior Honors Theses

Few recent historical developments have had as much impact on American Evangelical Christianity as the Jesus Movement. Dating back only a few decades, this movement resulted in the conversion of many countercultural youth and the consequent revitalization of many American churches. One of the greatest impacts of the Jesus Movement was its new music which came to be known as “Jesus Music.”

This thesis describes the history of the Jesus Movement and the musical impact it had on American Evangelical Christianity.

Divorce And Remarriage: Applying Biblical Standards To A Modern Culture, John E. Grab Jr. Dec 2011

Divorce And Remarriage: Applying Biblical Standards To A Modern Culture, John E. Grab Jr.

Senior Honors Theses

Divorce rates in America have reached historic levels. The American home has been exposed to disruption and fragmentation that has radically changed the culture of the American family. Furthermore, the uniqueness of the American situation resides in the near-apathetic approach that the American public has taken to the issue. Divorce rates are historically high and the American home is drastically changing, yet the American culture neglects the issue both in the local community of the church and the home and in the public arena of politics and government. By examining the biblical foundation of marriage, one can transition from principle ...

Review: 'God's Own Party: The Making Of The Christian Right', William Vance Trollinger

History Faculty Publications

There has been no end of predictions that the demise of the Religious Right is imminent. Over the past three decades, proof of its impending collapse has included the televangelist scandals, Pat Robertson’s failure to secure the Republican presidential nomination, the election and re-election of Bill Clinton, and the emergence of “young” evangelicals who refuse to toe the Religious Right line (this one keeps popping up).

The latest version involves the notion that economically focused libertarians of the Tea Party will inevitably find themselves in heated conflict with evangelical and fundamentalist social conservatives, thus challenging the power of the ...

Architecture In Religion: The History Of The Hagia Sophia And Proposals For Returning It To Worship, Andrew Jonathan Cohen

FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations

For nearly fifteen hundred years, the Hagia Sophia has been a constant figure in Istanbul, Turkey. The building has been the symbol of Christianity for the Byzantine Empire, Islam for the Ottoman Empire and Secularism for Republic of Turkey. It is rare that one building has had the ability to symbolize both religion and politics in the manner in which the Hagia Sophia has. One of the goals of this research is to examine the historical circumstances that have allowed this symbolism to occur. The other goal of this research is to examine the current voice that wishes to return ...

Micro Discipleship: A Relational And Missional Lifestyle For Churches Of Anglican Coalition In Canada, Silas T.Y. Ng

Doctor of Ministry Projects

The purpose of this ministry focus paper is to present a mentoring discipleship strategy to develop a relational and missional lifestyle on a micro level for churches of Anglican Coalition in Canada (hereafter, ACiC). This paper serves as a strategic plan for my overseeing ministry as a bishop, which I assumed in September 2009. It contains three major sections: research-based, theologically grounded, and strategically planned.

Part One (“Data-based”) offers a general overview of the ACiC, describing its history, vision, people, and challenges. The paper will then explore contextual issues through interviews of some important Christian leaders and the results of ...
