Micro Discipleship: A Relational And Missional Lifestyle For Churches Of Anglican Coalition In Canada, Silas T.Y. Ng Nov 2011

Micro Discipleship: A Relational And Missional Lifestyle For Churches Of Anglican Coalition In Canada, Silas T.Y. Ng

Doctor of Ministry Projects

The purpose of this ministry focus paper is to present a mentoring discipleship strategy to develop a relational and missional lifestyle on a micro level for churches of Anglican Coalition in Canada (hereafter, ACiC). This paper serves as a strategic plan for my overseeing ministry as a bishop, which I assumed in September 2009. It contains three major sections: research-based, theologically grounded, and strategically planned.

Part One (“Data-based”) offers a general overview of the ACiC, describing its history, vision, people, and challenges. The paper will then explore contextual issues through interviews of some important Christian leaders and the results of ...

Self Care Of The Fifty-Plus Generation At Immanuel Lutheran Church, Puyallup, Washington, Edwin L. Schultze Oct 2011

Self Care Of The Fifty-Plus Generation At Immanuel Lutheran Church, Puyallup, Washington, Edwin L. Schultze

Doctor of Ministry Projects

In light of the issues facing the aging, such as ever-changing health issues, changing circumstances, and issues surrounding work and relationships, it is incumbent upon the Christian community to help the middle-aged and older to stay abreast of what is taking place in the arena of self-care and holistic living. The Church, according to the New Testament, has a mandate and a command to preach and teach, to convert and to renew. As part of these commands, the Church should offer opportunities for information and renewal in the areas of health, well being, and self-care. With the need for better ...

An Inductive Study On How Business As Mission Entrepreneurs Decide To Start Businesses, Michael J. Bates Sep 2011

An Inductive Study On How Business As Mission Entrepreneurs Decide To Start Businesses, Michael J. Bates

Business as Mission Theses and Dissertations

Anecdotal evidence suggests that Businesses as Mission (BAM) entrepreneurs seem to have characteristics of both for-profit and social entrepreneurs. For-profit entrepreneurship literature has transitioned from focusing on who the entrepreneur is, to what they do as a function of their cognitive processes. Social entrepreneurship research areas have trended toward the formation of personality and motives of the socially-minded entrepreneur. Regardless of type, each entrepreneur must recognize opportunity, evaluate it, and then decide to take action or not. There were few peer-reviewed articles in the literature with regard to the study of BAM organizations or the entrepreneurs that start them. Since ...

Reclaiming The Ministry Of Teaching In The Missional Setting, Mary H. Naegeli Sep 2011

Reclaiming The Ministry Of Teaching In The Missional Setting, Mary H. Naegeli

Doctor of Ministry Projects

The dynamics of postmodernism and American secularism make Christ’s Great Commission difficult to fulfill. A thorough study of Matthew 28:18-20 establishes that the mandate is still valid, and that missional communities must get creative in fulfilling it. Mindful that the command to make disciples is accomplished by both baptism and teaching, this paper argues that Christians would be more effective if they taught unbelievers before their conversions. The engagement with the unchurched, de-churched, and religiously allergic is termed “missional teaching” and is carried out through informal but informative conversation.

This paper examines the apparent resistance to missional teaching ...

Assisting First-Position Leaders In Transition To Executive Secretary Roles, G. Alexander Bryant Sep 2011

Assisting First-Position Leaders In Transition To Executive Secretary Roles, G. Alexander Bryant

Doctor of Ministry Projects

This final project is designed to provide assistance from a biblical perspective to those transitioning into the role of executive secretary, a second-leader position, after having led from a first-leader position. In the Seventh-day Adventist Church organization, there are several structural levels, which form a hierarchical structure. Individuals who are selected for the position of second leader usually are chosen from among those who are first leaders in a lower level of the church organization.

This transition to second leader creates unique and specific challenges for most persons. Many struggle with understanding how to lead from this position as second ...

The Ministry Of Missional Preaching At Emmanuel In Paramount, California, William White Sep 2011

The Ministry Of Missional Preaching At Emmanuel In Paramount, California, William White

Doctor of Ministry Projects

The goal of this paper is to reflect on the need for missional preaching at Emmanuel in Paramount, California, to articulate the theological framework for such a ministry, and to strategize its implementation. This paper originated from Emmanuel’s commitment to renew the neighboring city of Compton and the ensuing need to develop disciples who embody God’s mission so deeply that they will serve that city for decades and potentially move into it. This paper argues that the mission of preaching derives from the mission of the Church which in turn derives from the mission of God. Since mission ...

The Initiative To Engage Listeners For Preaching The Gospel Persuasively In Postmodern American Evangelicalism, Jerry J. Marvel Sep 2011

The Initiative To Engage Listeners For Preaching The Gospel Persuasively In Postmodern American Evangelicalism, Jerry J. Marvel

Doctor of Ministry Projects

This dissertation will argue that in order for evangelistic preaching within American evangelicalism to regain the effectiveness currently being lost in the dramatically shifting culture it will be necessary for preachers to exert greater initiative to engage listeners with emotional persuasion beyond merely the information presented.

Changes in American culture at the twenty-first century mark reflect a transition from the modern to the postmodern era. One affect this change is having upon the religious life of American evangelicalism is a waning effectiveness of preaching the gospel as indicated by declining numbers of conversion growth in churches. The current crisis arises ...

Developing Great Commission Strategies For Chinese Christian Church Of Oxnard, California, Kan-Chor Lam Sep 2011

Developing Great Commission Strategies For Chinese Christian Church Of Oxnard, California, Kan-Chor Lam

Doctor of Ministry Projects

The goal of this study to help Chinese Christian Church of Oxnard (hereafter, CCCO) become a Great Commission church through a theologically relevant and practical strategy that involves missions education, short-term missions trips, an annual missions conference, and faith mission promise pledge cards. CCCO is a small church of about one hundred members, located in southern California. Currently, the church gives one-tenth of its tithe funds to world missions ministry, but this strategy has several flaws, including negatively impacting the local ministry as well as limiting the amount that is given to world missions ministry.

This ministry focus paper will ...
