Seventh-Day Adventist Dissertations And Theses In Religion, Jón Hjörleifur Stefánsson, Terry Dwain Robertson Jan 2015

Seventh-Day Adventist Dissertations And Theses In Religion, Jón Hjörleifur Stefánsson, Terry Dwain Robertson

Terry Dwain Robertson

A bibliography of theses and dissertations completed by students at Seventh-day Adventist institutions of Higher Education through 2012. The bibliography is a work in progress, and is not complete. Challenges continue with the representation of non-Roman fonts and diacritics, so authors and titles with these issues may not be listed at this time. It is the goal to include all works in the bibliography.

Why Go To The Library? Pedagogical Reflections [Poster], Terry Dwain Robertson Feb 2014

Why Go To The Library? Pedagogical Reflections [Poster], Terry Dwain Robertson

Terry Dwain Robertson

Why should Seminary students “go to the library”? Because of the ubiquity of online resources, it is increasingly possible to complete the degrees without setting foot in the building that is full of books. This is so even though many classes require readings or research papers that anticipate the use of the library. Surprisingly, some assessment feedback from students suggests that this mode of independent text based activity is not necessarily appreciated as time well spent. One proposal for responding to this trend reflects on the question of “time.” Time is a constraint of the human condition. We lack the ...

"Mirrors Of The Dance": Finding The Interplay Between The Static And The Dynamic In Biblical Ritual And Ancient Near Eastern Iconography, Gerald Klingbeil Jan 2012

"Mirrors Of The Dance": Finding The Interplay Between The Static And The Dynamic In Biblical Ritual And Ancient Near Eastern Iconography, Gerald Klingbeil

Gerald Klingbeil

Action is an important element in ritual and refers to the interplay of ritual objects/participants in space and time which results in the performance of the ritual itself (cf. Klingbeil2007:18). While both biblical ritual texts and ANE iconography depicting religious/ritual activities describe a dynamic, action-oriented reality, both are in fact static snapshots of an ancient reality or concept. Within the thematic framework of this particular session of the Ritual in the Biblical World consultation, this paper tries to look for an interface between ritual and iconographic studies by focusing upon the interaction between the dynamic and the ...

Ellen G. White’S Life Of Christ: An Episode In The History Of Early Adventist Translation Work, Denis Kaiser Jan 2012

Ellen G. White’S Life Of Christ: An Episode In The History Of Early Adventist Translation Work, Denis Kaiser

Denis Kaiser

In the late 1880s and early 1890s a book on the life of Jesus Christ was published in various foreign languages in Europe and North America. Ellen G. White was given as the author of the book. It generally went under the English working title The Life of Christ although there never has been a published English counterpart to these foreign language editions. The circumstance of those editions raises the question of their textual basis, background, and significance. The present article shows that the Life of Christ is an adapted version of Spirit of Prophecy, vols. 2 and 3, which ...

The Sabbath And The Most Prominent Magisterial Reformers, P. Gerard Damsteegt Aug 2011

The Sabbath And The Most Prominent Magisterial Reformers, P. Gerard Damsteegt

P. Gerard Damsteegt

This paper focuses on the Reformers’ views on the Sabbath at Creation, instruction of proper and improper Sabbath observance throughout the Scriptures, reasons for the abolition of the Sabbath, and finally, reasons for the change of the weekly day of worship from Saturday to Sunday. As much as possible, this research will use the primary works of the Reformers. The views of these Reformers will be dealt with chronologically, which means that, generally, the positions of the early Reformers on the various aspects of the Sabbath will be discussed first, and will be followed by those who wrote later.
