Use Of Assyriology In Chronological Apologetics In David's Secret Demons, Steven W. Holloway Nov 2003

Use Of Assyriology In Chronological Apologetics In David's Secret Demons, Steven W. Holloway

Steven W Holloway

The Tiglath-Pileser principle is Halpern's cross-cultural moniker for deliberate lying or distortion in royal inscriptions that, nevertheless, conceals a kernel of historical truth, upon which he elaborates a theory of biblical composition. The Sanctuary Of Apollo Hypoakraios And Imperial Athens, Peter Nulton Dec 2002

The Sanctuary Of Apollo Hypoakraios And Imperial Athens, Peter Nulton

Peter E. Nulton Ph.D.

The Cave Sanctuary of Apollo on the North Slope of the Acropolis at Athens was investigated in 1896-97 and produced a rich collection of inscriptions relating to the cult. These inscriptions are published in full for the first time in this work. The author discusses the history of the cult. Far from being of great antiquity as readers of Euripides' "Ion" have long assumed, the cult was instituted in the time of Augustus when "The Athenians thought it fitting that their archons swear an oath that upheld tradition in connection to Apollo Patroos, but simultaneously honored their 'new Apollo'", the ...

In Defense Of Double Agency In Evolution: A Response To Five Modern Critics, Father Nicanor Austriaco Dec 2002

In Defense Of Double Agency In Evolution: A Response To Five Modern Critics, Father Nicanor Austriaco

Rev. Nicanor Austriaco, O.P.

God acts in the world. That this is me is an ancient Christian conviction affirmed everytime anyone prays that the Father's will be done. Understanding how this is me, however, is an ongoing work oftheology. Several paradigmatic models for divine action in an evolving universe have been proposed recently by five schol ars working in the science-and-religion dialogue. They share two common elements. First, they all reject the theory ofdivine action as double agency - the solution pro posed by classical Western theism - as incoherent or inadequate. In this essay, I will argue that these five theologians have failed to ...
