Rise Of The Reconcilers: Developing A Multiethnic And Reconciling Church Through The Equipping Of Cross Cultural And Justice-Oriented Disciple Makers, Efrem Smith May 2019

Rise Of The Reconcilers: Developing A Multiethnic And Reconciling Church Through The Equipping Of Cross Cultural And Justice-Oriented Disciple Makers, Efrem Smith

Doctor of Ministry Projects

The city of Sacramento is one of the most multicultural and multiethnic cities in the United States, and yet within the last year has been facing deep racial tensions. These tensions have risen in the aftermath of the shooting death of unarmed African American Stephon Clark, at the hands of two Sacramento police officers. What is taking place in Sacramento is just part of the broader divisiveness, polarization, and dehumanization plaguing the entire United States.

Demonizing rhetoric targeted towards Black and brown people connected to the social issues of immigration, racial profiling, and religion dominates social media. Women within the ...

More Of God Retreat: Exploring Biblical Images Of God Through Prayer, Art T. Matheny

Doctor of Ministry Projects

The More of God Retreat will explore biblical images of God while assisting those whose prayer life is being constrained and inhibited by unhealthy images of God. The unhelpful images of God that people consciously and unconsciously carry radically affect the way they relate to God and each other. Through teaching, reflection, and experiential prayer practices, the three-day retreat aims to assist people on a journey toward a healthier image of God with a renewed, vibrant, and deeply personal prayer life.

The retreat is designed around the exploration of three images of God found in Luke 15:1-31: God as ...

A Spiritual Direction Program For Centro Hispanos De Estudios Teológicos (Chet), Cameron Wu-Cardona May 2019

A Spiritual Direction Program For Centro Hispanos De Estudios Teológicos (Chet), Cameron Wu-Cardona

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Spiritual direction is a ministry of listening, discernment and prayer that presents a vision of life with the expectation of finding God in all things. While Latinx ministry leaders in the Evangelical Covenant Church (“Covenant”) have gained increased exposure to this ministry, it remains limited among some ethnic/cultural groups. As such, this doctoral project proposes the creation of a bilingual spiritual direction certification program at Centro Hispanos de Estudios Teológicos (CHET) to train Latinx ministry leaders serving the broader Latinx community.

The approach to this proposed program would encompass bridging historically divergent streams of Christian spirituality utilizing Richard Foster ...

Freedom In Christ: Spiritual Deliverance Within A Disciple-Making And Missional-Sending Church Vision, Kerry D. Bowman

Doctor of Ministry Projects

To empower people in the Temecula Valley and The Awakening Church to become fully alive in Christ and to his mission, this project creates a place for deliverance ministry along a disciple-making pathway whereby sin patterns and strongholds are broken through spiritual warfare, inner healing and obedience.

When Jesus sent his disciples on mission, while instructing them along the pathways of Judea, Luke 9:1-2 states, “he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.” The desire of ...

Responsabilidad Social De La Iglesia En Relación Con Los Niños Y Niñas En Riesgo, Leonel B. Deleon

Doctor of Ministry Projects

From Insight To Encounter: The Ignatian Spiritual Exercises And The Transformation Of The Heart, Philip Rushton Mar 2019

From Insight To Encounter: The Ignatian Spiritual Exercises And The Transformation Of The Heart, Philip Rushton

Doctor of Ministry Projects

The goal of this project is to help the people of Longview Community Church deepen their ability to encounter and respond to the love of God through participating in an introductory experience of Ignatius of Loyola’s Spiritual Exercises. This project explores how the Ignatian practices of reflective meditation on Scripture, imaginative contemplation of Scripture, and the prayer of examen help people not only gain theological insights but also have a transformative encounter with God.

The Spiritual Exercises provides a corrective to the predominant models of discipleship in the contemporary Protestant church, which often focus more on informing minds than ...

How North American Parents Can Support The Holistic Development Of Their Teenage Children, Teresa Tong

Doctor of Ministry Projects

The purpose of this project is to analyze the current context of North American parents and their teenagers so as to recommend ways they can support the holistic development (body, mind, and soul) of their children. Although many factors contribute to the outcome, balanced nurturing can give them a better chance of enjoying a healthier adulthood later in life. Children need support and guidance from multiple sectors, especially parents, in their holistic development.

This paper is divided into three parts. Part One focuses on analyzing the environment and challenges faced by today’s young people and their parents in North ...

Making A Healthy Church: Church Growth Strategy Through Spiritual Mentoring, Sungeun Yang Mar 2019

Making A Healthy Church: Church Growth Strategy Through Spiritual Mentoring, Sungeun Yang

Doctor of Ministry Projects

The Los Angeles Fountain Church is a Korean Presbyterian immigrant church located in Gardena, California. Gardena, once the historic berry growing capital of southern California, was a lush oasis of greenery amidst coastal sage scrub. By the 1990s, Gardena was home to a large percentage of Korean immigrants living in Los Angeles. Even though more than 75 percent of Korean immigrants in America are churchgoers, Korean immigrant churches still have difficulty meeting their complex needs.

The greatest challenge for the Los Angeles Fountain Church is membership instability. This issue is a consequence of the immigrant mentality that survival is one ...

Adopting The Abandoned: Changing The Approach To Student Ministry At First Baptist Church In Columbia, Missouri, Michael W. Mcentyre

Doctor of Ministry Projects

The purpose of this doctoral project is to lead the congregation of First Baptist Church to first understand the effects of systemic abandonment of adolescents by Western culture and the Church and then confront these effects by applying what can be learned (about identity, belonging, and attachment) from a biblical and cultural (secular) understanding of adoption, in order to reshape ministry praxis to more faithfully align with the work of God’s Kingdom. The project uses the process of practical theology to guide this work.

This project is divided into three parts. Part One explores systems of adolescent support—and ...

A Disciple Development Strategic Design For A Mission-Minded Ministry In A Post-Modern Era, Jonathan E. Logan Mar 2019

A Disciple Development Strategic Design For A Mission-Minded Ministry In A Post-Modern Era, Jonathan E. Logan

Doctor of Ministry Projects

This project devises a strategy requiring leadership commitment, supported by an operating style that inspires trust, obedience, and hope to sustain a disciple development culture at Antioch Church of God in Christ Church in Peoria, Arizona. The theological foundation of the study was Jesus’ mandate (Mt 28:18-20) and the spiritual maturation process (Rom 12:1-2). An improvement opportunity was identified in aligning the ministry culture to the theological practice supporting disciple development. Challenges associated with the community’s perception of the Pentecostal reformation were examined contextually. An original grace-based conceptual model was used for a senior leader’s retreat ...
