A Phenomenological Study Of The Role Of Institutional Debt In The Mid-America Region Of Acsi, John Robert Beck

The purpose of this phenomenological study was to inductively explore and understand how school leadership’s views on institutional debt impacted its use at Christian kindergarten-twelfth grade (K-12) schools in the Mid-America Region of the Association of Christian Schools International (MAR-ACSI). Institutional debt was generally defined as large and reoccurring expenses such as mortgages for school buildings. The qualitative research theory guiding this study was transcendental phenomenological reduction articulated by Clark Moustakas (1994) in his Phenomenological Research Methods. Self-efficacy for biblical learning was explored in the context of a small group experience focused on how to study the Bible. After first developing a new instrument to measure self-efficacy for biblical learning in a pilot study, ten church attendees participated in a seven-week course designed around the hermeneutical principles of understanding a Scripture passage in textual and historical context, placing the passage in the grand story of God, and relating it to relevant doctrine. Perceptions Of The Mission Of The Church Outlined By Teachers In North American Seventh-Day Adventist Schools, Wendy Jackson

This chapter reports the results of two questions related to the mission of the church which were contained in a survey administered to educators employed by Seventh-day Adventist Schools in North America. The first was an open ended question asking participants to put their understanding of the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in their own words. The second question asked participants to rate the importance of statements describing various things the church could be doing. Together, the answers to these questions provide important information on the priorities of the church through the eyes of educators.

This chapter reports the responses of teachers employed in Seventh-day Adventist schools in North America to questions which probe their understanding of salvation. Their responses reveal a range of different views with respect to salvation and the role of the law. These findings are in keeping with the variety influences which have shaped the doctrine of salvation in the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

The purpose of this qualitative case study is to describe the motivation of parents, teachers, and school board members to invest their efforts in classical Christian education in a modern American K-12 school. The theory guiding this study is expectancy-value theory as it relates to the evaluative aspects of stakeholders’ beliefs about classical Christian education and their motives to become involved in it. The binding characteristic of Biola University’s theological identity represents a hierarchical spirituality rooted in “thinking biblically about everything.” As a result, Biola espouses a resolutely kataphatic [1] spirituality that reduces Christian formation to the transmission of biblical knowledge while neglecting the formation of the whole person. The purpose of this study was to measure the perceived degree of spiritual development of graduating seniors at 26 denominational religious colleges and universities in the United States to analyze the possible effects of secularization on religious colleges. The teacher is one of those influences. At a Christian school, it is reasonable to expect that educators possess a Christian worldview. Spiritual direction is a ministry of listening, discernment and prayer that presents a vision of life with the expectation of finding God in all things. While Latinx ministry leaders in the Evangelical Covenant Church (“Covenant”) have gained increased exposure to this ministry, it remains limited among some ethnic/cultural groups.
