Continued Renewal Of Apostolic Religious Life: A Transformative Model, Sister Maria Iannuccillo

Master of Arts in Religious Studies (M.A.R.S. Theses)

Religious Life in the United States has gone through a radical transition in the last thirty-eight years since the close of the Second Vatican Council. With the call of Vatican II to the renewal and updating of Religious Life, most religious congregations have been in a time of renewal, transition, and transformation. However, most religious congregations in the United States have also experienced a period of decline in the number of women entering their congregation, which raises questions about their future prospects. In response to these challenges facing Religious Life in the Catholic Church, particularly in apostolic communities in the ...

The Problem Of Religion, Violence, And Peace: An Uneasy Trilogy, David L. Coppola Jan 2000

The Problem Of Religion, Violence, And Peace: An Uneasy Trilogy, David L. Coppola

SHU Faculty Publications

Drawing primarily on Jewish, Christian, and Islamic texts, as well as on philosophical and sociological concepts, I will examine religion and its relationship to violence from three distinct, but related perspectives; namely, that 1) religion is directly linked with violence; 2) religion functions as one among many factors that influence violence; and 3) religions are unwilling participants in the practice of violence. This essay begins by setting a context for the study of religion, violence, and peace, followed by a presentation of the three perspectives mentioned above, concluding with possibilities for the study and practice of future peace-making.

Evangelism In A Pluralistic Society, Wayne A. Detzler

How do we evangelize a pluralistic society? We proclaim the name of Jesus Christ. To a multitude starved for truth, we offer the truth of God's inerrant Word. For millions mired down in sin, we offer a Saviour who can snatch them out. Amid the confusion and conflict we call people to meet at the Cross of the lord Jesus Christ, and He draws all.
