Discovering The Current Opinions Of The Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Transgender, And Questioning Individuals Towards The Evangelical Protestant Churches, Joseph Dagostino

Scholar Week 2016 - present

This research addressed the current opinions held by the LGBTQ community toward Evangelical Protestant churches. As a Pastor of a church that is concerned about this subject, the researcher developed and implemented a survey instrument that attempted to discover the over-all opinions, differences among sexual orientations in opinions, factors that encouraged and discouraged LGBTQ individuals’ involvement within Evangelical Protestant churches, and various levels of involvement by the participants in Evangelical Protestant churches. The researcher used the services of Survey Gizmo to distribute the survey tool amongst those self-identified as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning to complete the survey instrument ...

Scholar Week 2016 - present

Book #1: "Square Peg: Why Wesleyans Aren't Fundamentalists," written by Nazarene and published by the Nazarene Publishing House. Book #2: "Church Refugees: Sociologists Reveal Why People Are DONE with Church but Not Their Faith," by Josh Packard and Ashleigh Hope, which tells why there are mature, highly educated Christians leaving the institutional church. The reasons why they are leaving are for the same four unexpected reasons. While these folks may not be large in numbers, they may be large in impact because they are doers and leaders at all levels of the church, so they may be leading the ...

An Analysis Of Education And Experience In Pastoral Leadership Development, Justin L. Hayes May 2015

An Analysis Of Education And Experience In Pastoral Leadership Development, Justin L. Hayes

Ed.D. Dissertations

This study analyzed the relationships between education and servant leadership behaviors and between experience and servant leadership behaviors. The goal was to determine whether education or experience served as the stronger predictor of servant leadership behaviors among Nazarene pastors. Several linear regressions were calculated using data submitted by 37 Nazarene pastors serving in the United States and Canada from a demographic survey designed by the researcher and the Servant Leadership Questionnaire. This study showed participating Nazarene pastors rate strongly in servant leadership behaviors, but no predictive relationships between education and servant leadership, between total years (full time and part time ...

An Existential Interpretation Of The Doctrine Of Holiness, Mildred Bangs Wynkoop Mar 2015

An Existential Interpretation Of The Doctrine Of Holiness, Mildred Bangs Wynkoop

Wesleyan Holiness Books

The purpose of this book is three-fold. First, to analyze and evaluate the status of the "holiness" message today. In this analysis the problems raised by the preaching of holiness will be faced squarely. Then, a fresh examination of the Scriptures will be attempted upon which the holiness message is based. Finally, a constructive theological statement will be proposed in which, it is hoped, some of the most serious questions will find a satisfactory answer.

This is not a book for the scholar primarily though it is hoped he will find it worth his time to examine either to approve ...

The purpose of this study was to educate and equip Christian publishers to resource young pastors who are ministering in a postmodern culture. The study focused on Church of the Nazarene pastors 35 years old or younger in the calendar year 2012, exploring their attitudes toward Christian faith, spirituality, and discipleship. At certain junctures in the study, the young pastors’ attitudes were compared to those of pastors who were 36 years or older in order to determine what ...

F.F. Bruce: A Life, By Tim Grass, Craighton T. Hippenhammer Dec 2013

F.F. Bruce: A Life, By Tim Grass, Craighton T. Hippenhammer

Faculty Scholarship – Library Science

Frederick Fyvie Bruce (1910-1990) was one of the most influential evangelical biblical scholars of the last half of the Twentieth Century within the UK and the United States at a time when highly respected evangelical academics were rare and almost non-existent. Over his lifetime he wrote over two thousand articles and reviews plus four dozen books, mostly about the Bible, biblical commentary and interpretation, and classical language translation. His approach was nonsectarian and inclusive, from the standpoint of insightful biblical translation rather than systematized theology. This biography is a fully realized, in-depth treatment, covering both Bruce’s academic career and ...

Reducing Barriers To Wesleyan Thought: Olivet Nazarene University And The Wesleyan Holiness Library, Craighton T. Hippenhammer Jan 2013

Reducing Barriers To Wesleyan Thought: Olivet Nazarene University And The Wesleyan Holiness Library, Craighton T. Hippenhammer

Faculty Scholarship – Library Science

Olivet Nazarene University’s recent move to start publishing academic scholarship in a digital institutional repository, Digital Commons, is a smart move to not only highlight and preserve Olivet scholarship, but also to support the worldwide open access movement that is widely expected to rescue the current failing model of academic publishing. The traditional methods for publishing faculty scholarship have been inadequate for some time, and the financial structures that sustain them are collapsing due to skyrocketing journal prices. What faculty members want most for their research is that it be as accessible, available and useful to other researchers and ...

The Church Of The Nazarene In The U.S.: Race, Gender, And Class In The Struggle With Pentecostalism And Aspirations Toward Respectability, 1895-1985, Charles L. Perabeau

Faculty Scholarship - Sociology

This dissertation considers how the issues of race, gender, and class factored in the response of the Church of the Nazarene to the Azusa Street Revival, and how the processes of anti-Pentecostalization, whitening, masculinization, and embourgeoisement have contributed to elevating the social respectability of the Church of the Nazarene in the United States.

Marketing Nazarene Higher Education: A Study Of Nazarene High School Senior College Choice, Timothy W. Eades

This was a quantitative study of college choice factors as related to Nazarene high school seniors. A purposeful sample comprised of 6,918 students was utilized leading to 343 valid survey respondents. Valid respondents were specifically high-school seniors, over the age of 18, which attended a Nazarene church and signified the intention of attending a college or university in the fall of 2010. Nine very important or extremely important college choice factors were derived from the findings of this study. Differentiations were established with students choosing to attend a Nazarene college or university and those that chose not to do ...

Positivity And Positive Reinforcement In Organizational Culture At Nazarene Higher Education Institutions, Brian W. Parker

Ed.D. Dissertations

Given the importance of employee motivation, satisfaction, productivity, and retention, as well as the support for positivity in the review of the literature, this study examined the effects of positivity and positive reinforcement in organizational culture, through the lens of admissions professionals, at the eight Nazarene Higher Education Institutions (NHEI) within the United States. The study also examined the effects of the perceived positivity of leaders in organizational culture, in the same context. The findings revealed some signs of positivity among NHEI admissions professionals, but no evidence was revealed regarding the consistent use of positive reinforcement in these settings. The ...

Clergy Retention In The Church Of The Nazarene, The Role Of The District Superintendent In Clergy Decision-Making Regarding Persistence In Active Vocational Ministry, Jeren L. Rowell

Ed.D. Dissertations

The researcher theorized that collecting and analyzing data on variables associated with clergy attrition, particularly the relationship between pastor and district superintendent, would lead toward suggesting strategies for clergy retention that could be applied in the denominational judicatories of the USA and Canada region of the Church of the Nazarene. This study provided a fresh look at the pastor-superintendent relationship. The research demonstrated that superintendents are not and likely will not be highly engaged with pastors in the actual decision-making process regarding persistence in active vocational ministry. However, the study also revealed a strong desire among pastors for the involvement ...
