This article represents a growing body of literature that fuse creative modes of writing with the academic discourse using an autoethnographic approach to cultural analysis. Shuttling between theory and practice, I situate my research preoccupations in relation to the growing body of literature on Asian American cultural production, memory, and identity. The paper advances an argument that European intellectual community played a role that influenced attitudes and policies of anti-Semitic conception of Jews as Jews. Dying Metaphors And Deadly Fantasies: Freud, Baldwin And Race As Intimacy, Jean-Paul Rocchi

This article has for foundation a textual dialogue between Baldwin and Freud. It argues that the imprint left by nineteenth and early twentieth-century racial metaphors on the Freudian construction of gender and sexuality has reproduced the logic of racial differentiation within psychoanalysis. This can be seen, for instance, in the mutual exclusion of identification and desire and the role played by unconscious fantasies. Baldwin's exploration of American white consciousness provides the lens for perceiving this racial undercurrent in Freud's texts, and more particularly in his 1915 sketch of the fantasy. This paper will explore pedagogical strategies for using Spike Lee's cinematic coup Bamboozled to stimulate thoughtful discourse about race in the college classroom. The combined use of film excerpts, writing exercises and classroom discussion can help students to deconstruct racial stereotyping in the media. The students are asked initially not to converse about their emotional reactions to excerpts from the film, but to write about these responses for a brief ten to fifteen minute period. Through an exploration of the capital, cultural, and political impossibility inscribed onto the queer body of color by the nation, this article attempts to interrogate violence against those bodies (specifically utilizing the case of transgender Latina Bibi Barajas) in an attempt to excavate productive strategies of resistance able to counter that violence. By building an alternative archive of resistance, it becomes possible to resist speaking for those whose bodies are subjected to violence and to oppose pulling them into legibility.
