Prediction of colloidal nanoparticle aggregation is an important problem which needs to be solved in an accurate and efficient manner. In ideal case model which is chosen to predict colloidal nanoparticle aggregation should accurately describe physico-chemical interactions of relatively large physical systems, and at the same time, simulate at low computational cost. In this research, two simulation approaches, molecular dynamics (MD) and Brownian dynamics (BD), are analyzed and compared with a view to accurately predicting ggregation of colloidal nanoparticles. This study examines neighborhood characteristics as predictors of parenting quality among African-American mothers. Drawing upon Wilson's (1996) ideas of how community conditions affect the urban poor, I examined protective qualities of community life including residential stability and social capital. I examined social capital in two separate social fields based on Wilkinson's (1970) field theory approach to community development. The primary purpose of this study was to determine, through interviews, what educational and socio-cultural characteristics Hispanic women leaders in higher education possess. This study also provides an outlet for four Hispanic women leaders to share their unique experiences and journeys during their rise to administration. They were able to share their perceptions of their own career paths. The results offer advice for other Hispanic women aspiring to ascend into leadership positions. The primary purpose of this investigation was to explore the internal and external factors that contributed to the successful negotiation of promotion and tenure for six African American female faculty members at a selected predominantly White Doctoral Extensive Institution. The data were gathered over the course of one year and were initiated after a pilot study was conducted on how first-generation African American graduate students navigated through graduate school. This study uses feminist life-history narrative methodology to explore the experiences of three African women, who have pursued or are pursuing higher education in the United States, leaving their families in Africa. This study examines the effects of economic hardship on mental health for 501 African American women from Georgia and Mississippi. Three issues are of particular concern: (1) the differential response patterns to economic stress and depressive symptoms; (2) the utilization of coping resources such as social support, sense of control, and religiosity to moderate the link between economic stress and depressive symptoms; and (3) a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between economic hardship, economic stress, and depressive symptoms. This dissertation consists of three research papers that focus on the unequal opportunities historically afforded Black Americans and those of low socio-economic status. The central topic of this research is the displacement of autochthonous Americans from their territories in Iowa during the first half of the nineteenth century. At the beginning of that century an interaction period was initiated between the native nations and the U.S. government, which culminated in the U.S. claim for the land of those nations and their gradual displacement . This is a study of a black farm community called Brooks Farm. The research was designed to examine the total experience of Brooks Farm residents. The Brooks Farm community is located in Drew, Mississippi, a small rural town in the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta. This study covers a period of fifty years, 1920-1970, in order to show changes that occurred in the community. The Brooks Farm community was formerly established as a plantation during the 1920s. By the treaty negotiated at the close of the Black Hawk War in 1832, the Sauk (Sac) and Mesquakie (Fox) ceded their lands bordering the Mississippi River. Thirteen years and several treaties later,the tribes had ceded all their remaining lands in Iowa Territory to the United States government and they were relocated to a reservation in present-day Kansas.
