Institutionalizing An “Ethic Of Care” Into The Teaching Of Ethics For Pre-Service Teachers, Michelle Hawks, Thashika Pillay

This paper calls for the acknowledgement and institutionalization of an ethic of care into the education of decision-making processes for pre-service teachers. The impetus for this paper came from the author's experiences with teaching a mandatory ethics and law course for pre-service teachers. Over the course of their teaching and as expounded upon in this paper, the authors illustrate how the course goals, aims, objectives and readings ignore discussions on gender in the teaching profession. Building A Better Term Paper: Integrating Scaffolded Writing And Peer Review, Kate Padgett-Walsh, Anastasia Prokos, Sharon R. Bird

This paper presents a method for teaching undergraduate students how to write better term papers in philosophy. The method integrates two key assignment components: scaffolding and peer review. We explain these components and how they can be effectively combined within a single term paper assignment. We then present the results of our multi-year research study on the integrated method. Professor observations, quantitative measures, and qualitative feedback indicate that student writing improves when philosophy term paper assignments are designed to generate multiple rounds of drafting and review.

Academic misconduct among students has been the focus of a tremendous amount of literature for a number of decades (Crown & Spiller, 1998). The author analyzes the history of rational liberalism, connecting this paradigm with the rhetoric of the culture wars, posing postmodernism as the re-emergence of Classical sophism, and offering a rhetoric pedagogy which draws from neo-Protagorean argumentation and Paolo Freire.
