Escrituras A Ras De Suelo: Crónica Latinoamericana Del Siglo Xx, Marcela Aguilar, Claudia Darrigrandi, Mariela Méndez, Antonia Viu

Bookshelf

Agustín Gómez-Arcos, Sharon G. Feldman

Latin American, Latino and Iberian Studies Faculty Publications

Agustín Gómez-Arcos, a bilingual dramatist and novelist, was born in 1933 in the village of Enix (Almeria). The origins of his theater can be traced to his childhood experiences, in which he witnessed firsthand the horrors of the Spanish Civil War and the dark clouds of oppression of the Francoist regime, images that left indelible imprints on his literature and his life. Although in the future he would leave behind both native country and language, his memories of the Civil War and postwar period would continue to surface in his plays.

The Artistic Deformation Of Reality : An Ideological Portrait Of Tyranny In Tirano Banderas And El Señ̃Or Presidente, Roebrta Wynne Cohen

Master's Theses

Tyrants speak with many voices, bold many poses, and cast many shadows, but inevitably all wear the same face--the tragic face of tyranny itself. Many artists have painted the portrait; few have captured the essence of its tragedy. Valle Inclan and Asturias, each in his own way, depict the world of tyranny as grotesque and absurd in order to show the tragic condition of man. It is my intent to describe and analyze this grotesque world of tyranny, as portrayed in Tirana Banderas and Senor Preeidente; to compare the techniques used by each writer to create this world; to interpret ...
