Mitchell tells of his profitable resale to area Presbyterians of books purchased from an agent, and of meeting a “very fine” young lady. Describing Christmas in Danville, he notes the noisy firecrackers and the visibility of local African Americans, who uncharacteristically venture into the cold under the “impulse” of the liberty granted them during the holidays. She also notes with regret the recent closing of the Burma Road, used to supply China in its conflict with Japan. This collection includes a good deal of information about Farley’s teaching career prior to his work as a professor at WKU, his involvement in organizations that fought alcoholism and gambling (particularly the lottery in Kentucky), his church work, and his service on a committee to choose a federal magistrate for the western district of Kentucky. The collection includes an entire box of assessment related material related to Fort Knox Dependent Schools in the mid-1960s.

Writing from Louisville, Kentucky on an apparent selling trip, he describes attending church, visiting the steamer Charles Brown at Jeffersonville, and the purchases he has made for her and their daughters Anne, Sallie, Lela, Fawn, Olinda and Bonnie. He expresses doubts about making money on the trip, but advises that Owensboro is his next destination.
