Il existe deux versions de ce texte dans le manuscrit original. Seule la première a été reprise pour la transcription. Marguerite Durand y fait une analyse détaillée et commentée de cette pièce féministe dont les personnages -avocate, écrivaine, femme médecin, journaliste – représentent les différentes figures de l’émancipation féminine. La pièce obtint un grand succès en 1913.

Réunion de plusieurs textes consacrés à la question du travail des femmes, qui est l’un des thèmes majeurs de la réflexion et de l’action de Marguerite Durand. Le premier texte, qui date de 1907, année de la fondation par Marguerite Durand de son Office du travail féminin, est consacré au travail des ouvrières de la Compagnie générale d’électricité d’Ivry-sur-Seine, et illustre bien les problématiques chères à la journaliste : remise en cause des lois prétendument protectrices, égalité des salaires, etc.

Tintype exposure is about 1"W x 2"H.

A girl in a white dress stands next to a seated man in dark clothes with her left arm around his shoulder. The man wears a hat and his hands rest on his lap. A young woman or girl, also in a white dress, sits next to him with her hands folded in her lap.

Date of photograph is unknown but tintypes flourished in popularity in the 1860s and 1870s and the clothing of the figures suggests a similar time period.

This item is a list of over 80 "negroes" — slaves of African descent — at Spring Garden, a plantation in present-day DeLeon Springs State Park, Florida. The list notes the first names of slaves and their ages. Annotations indicate occupations and work assignments, family units, and if individuals were sent to Charleston or sold locally. The meaning of some annotations are unclear or at least not explicit, such as small circles next to females' names. Annotations indicate this list was used as reference more than once.
