Personae Non Gratae, Laura Bisaillon Mar 2018

Personae Non Gratae, Laura Bisaillon

Journal of Critical Thought and Praxis

The Journal of Critical Thought and Praxis has traditionally published creative pieces. We believe that this expression is a reflective way to contribute to critical issues in social justice. It was important to the author that this poem has a bilingual appearance. The poem was originally written in English and translated to Amharic.

Modern Chinese Essays: Zhou Zuoren, Lin Yutang And Others, Tonglu Li

World Languages and Cultures Publications

Modern essay, or creative nonfiction prose, whose success almost surpasses that of poetry, theater and fiction,1 was born out of the marriage of traditional Chinese and Western culture.2 On a superficial level, it distinguishes itself from traditional essay by using vernacular instead of classical or literary Chinese, and thus is more accessible to the masses. In terms of genre, it is narrower in scope than traditional essay which includes all non-verse writings, literary or not. More importantly, as Yu Dafu points out, modern essay values the expression of individuality and personality more than any other writings.3 By ...

International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA) Annual Conference Proceedings

Design Mentor Statement: This work was a class project in my creative design processes class. Students were challenged to incorporate two or more fabric manipulation techniques into a wearable art ensemble based on their design research. Each student engaged in an extensive design research process, seeking information from a variety of visual, verbal, 2D, and 3D sources. From the research, students created 20 sketchbook pages, juxtaposing images and text from a wide range of sources with their own inspiration sketches. Each student created a mood board (Figure 1), their patterns, first sample, and final ensemble. Students were mentored with formative ...

Architecture In A Book, Daniel J. Naegele

In 1955, the year in which his renowned chapel at Ronchamp was completed, the Swiss-French architect, Le Corbusier—perhaps the most influential architect in the world at the time—drew a book for the Livres d’Artiste series produced by the famous publisher, Tériade. The series was begun in 1943 and featured books by Rouault, Bonnard, Laurens, Matisse, Picasso, Chagall, Léger, and Gris. Le Corbusier’s Le Poème de l’angle droit [1] was comprised of a poetic text written in a broad, cursive script and twenty full-page lithographs (32cm x 42cm). The lithographs were to be removed from the ...

A Fragrant Cloud Rose, Mark P. Widrlechner Jan 2016

A Fragrant Cloud Rose, Mark P. Widrlechner

Books

This collection is my third major compilation of poems and images, bringing together verses from fourteen chapbooks, created between October 2013 and July 2015, along with photos from my wanderings during that same spell. During that time, so much did change. The evolution of my grief and longing changed its dimensions and reached a point where I felt confident enough to search for new love; then I learned how rocky that search could be, how much I still had to learn and grow.
