The Lemon Tree: My Tree Of Life, Meghan E. Mccarthy Jun 2014

The Lemon Tree: My Tree Of Life, Meghan E. Mccarthy

Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations

The Lemon Tree is a collection of poems that arose from my attempt to capture memories of influential experiences in growing up. The poems are written in prose blocks and move in and out of childlike and adult sensibilities, creating the disillusion of time and memory. The poems themselves are comments on the unreliability and limited scope of memory and compare remembrance to dreams. This suggests that time moves more fluidly than the waking world accepts. Drywall, Aimee Charlene Demery Jan 2014

Drywall, Aimee Charlene Demery

English Graduate Theses & Dissertations

My intention in writing this collection was to explore where Lyric and narrative come together to tell a story that is neither linear nor abstract, but woven in such a way as to be an immersion. The narrative arcs in prose allowed for scenes and story to develop, even when on a minute scale.

During the writing process, it became very apparent that at the heart of these stories was a fascination somewhere between fixation and voyeurism. Seeing the ...
