How To Help When It Hurts? Think Systemic, Corey L. Wrenn Ph.D. Oct 2019

How To Help When It Hurts? Think Systemic, Corey L. Wrenn Ph.D.

Corey Lee Wrenn, PhD

To resolve a moral dilemma created by the rescue of carnivorous species from exploitative situations who must rely on the flesh of other vulnerable species to survive, Cheryl Abbate applies the guardianship principle in proposing hunting as a case-by-case means of reducing harm to the rescued animal as well as to those animals who must die to supply food. This article counters that Abbate’s guardianship principle is insufficiently applied given its objectification of deer communities. Tom Regan, alternatively, encouraged guardians to think beyond individual dilemmas and adopt a measure of systemic reconstruction, that being the abolition of speciesist institutions ...

Conversations About Everything, Kim Judge, Pawel Tomaszewski, Mark B N Ingham Dr Sep 2019

Conversations About Everything, Kim Judge, Pawel Tomaszewski, Mark B N Ingham Dr

Organizational Aesthetics

Conversations about Everything is based on a three way conversation about a performative educational project called Mapping Strange Assemblages. This was a part of UAL/London College of Communication‘s contribution the 2018 London Design Festival and the Design School’s Public Programme. It rhizomatically maps out the interventions by a group of students and alumni who where named the Band of Animateurs (BOAs). As an assemblages it attempts to create a visual and narrative affect that mirrored the performances during the Exhibition, Everything Happens So Much’.

From Creative Writing To A Self’S Liberation: A Monologue Of A Struggling Writer, Ethan Trinh Aug 2019

From Creative Writing To A Self’S Liberation: A Monologue Of A Struggling Writer, Ethan Trinh

Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement

The pressure of being alone in a new country and of surviving in a competitive academia has scared me to death. I cannot find any better way to heal me other than writing. Writing helps me make sense of the worlds and come closer to my true self. This piece is journeying from my own struggles of a Vietnamese, queer, immigrant teacher to accept who I am as a writer. In addition, writing this piece helps me get closer to decademizing academic writing in higher education.
