Each new technology, each new app, creates an opportunity to alter the experience of teaching and learning—often supporting increased authentic interactions with the Chinese language. This paper, through a combined quantitative-qualitative research method, was designed to study the importance of integrating Chinese culture into Chinese teaching as a foreign language. The research discussed the major reasons that contributed to the phenomenon of the parable of “the Blind Men and an Elephant” in Chinese teaching. This paper presents an innovative teaching method that uses TED conference to stimulate and support learners of Chinese in improving their speaking skills. In non-target language countries, students are often reluctant to use Chinese in real life. This study overviews a case where TED conferences were integrated into a university-based Chinese language course in New Zealand. It also discusses the major findings emerging from implementing this innovative pedagogy as well as the recommendations for future research. An Investigation Of The Relationship Between Prince ShōToku’S ShōMangyō-Gisho And Two Dunhuang Buddhist Manuscripts: A Debate Over Originality And Canonical Value, Mark Dennis

This article investigates the relationship between two manuscript fragments discovered in Dunhuang, China referred to as Nai 93 and Tama 24, and the Shōmangyō-gisho, a Buddhist text written in classical Chinese attributed to Japan’s Prince Shōtoku (574-622). Shōtoku is remembered in Japanese history as the country’s first patriarch of Buddhism, revered for his patronage of the nascent faith and his great erudition. His studies under a Korean Buddhist monk led, according to early historical texts, to his composing the Shōmangyō-gisho and two other Buddhist commentaries that have been greatly valued throughout Japanese Buddhist history.

This article documents the development of a bilingual English/Mandarin library guide for the Chinese student population of Fort Hays State University. Growing international student populations across the country mean that many university libraries need to customize services for unique student groups. At Forsyth Library of Fort Hays State University we serve over 3600 students from China. We sought to develop further services for this student group. Please note that throughout this paper, when referring to “Chinese language,” we are specifically referencing Standard Mandarin, which is predominant among our Chinese students.

歷來言《易傳》作者,或以爲出孔子之手,或以爲非孔子所作,莫衷一是。本文在前賢研究基礎上,從《論語》入手,找出書中孔子言論與傳世《易傳》内容相似之處,共得17 條,所言道理,包括朋友講習、改過遷善、節用愛民、慎言節食、敬義立德、寡慾致剛、不貳己過、順言以悦、非禮勿履、尊卑有序、止息争訟、赦過宥罪、思不出位、君子固窮、裒多益寡、修美文德、不言而行。以上諸點,《論語》與《易傳》立論,互爲表裏。據此,知孔子之於《易傳》,雖無撰述之實,或有闡述之功。本文證明《論語》與《象傳》及《彖傳》具密切關係,此對孔子闡述《易傳》之説,或可提供足資參考之佐證。

司馬遷私淑孔子,《史記》典範《春秋》。司馬遷著成《史記》,猶孔子作《春秋》,“於定、哀之際,則微”,《司馬相如列傳》所謂“《春秋》推見至隱”。所以出以微辭隱義者,觸忌犯諱故也。今以《史記·淮陰侯列傳》爲例,揭示司馬遷發揮史德之真實,運用《春秋》書法,顯揚韓信之忠貞不二,爲勇略震主、功蓋天下之韓信平反冤獄。司馬遷運用《春秋》比事屬辭之書法有三:一、據事直書,具文見義,即“盡而不汙”之書法,是實録、信史之基調。清梁玉繩《史記志疑》極辯信無反狀十一事,史公依漢廷獄案將誣詞叙入傳中,比事屬辭,而其冤自見。二、詳略重輕,筆削見義:筆削之義,則體現於詳略、重輕、異同、有無諸書法。漢中之對、安邑之襲、背水之戰、濰水之陣,爲勇略震主、功蓋天下作見證,故較詳較重。武涉與蒯通之遊説,前較略、較輕,後偏詳、偏重。重輕、詳略,皆有義可求。韓信之回應武涉與蒯通,屬辭雖有微殊,而曰豈可鄉利背義,雖死不易,是其所同。三、微婉顯晦,互見示義:“太史公曰”之微辭隱義,當前後相絜,彼此相形。如信與陳豨,聯手謀反;韓信夙願,止在封侯;韓信功勳,可比周、召、太公之徒;天下已集,乃謀畔逆等等:皆所謂忌諱書寫,最見《春秋》書法。

中古時代《漢書》地位頗高,堪與“五經”相提並論。《漢書》經典地位的確立,除了其文本自身所具有的經典特質以外,傳授和注釋的作用也非常重要。東漢中期是《漢書》學的發軔期,班固之妹班昭與馬續續補《漢書》,教授《漢書》於馬融,並爲班固《幽通賦》作注,可謂《漢書》學第一人。從東漢末年的服虔《漢書音訓》、應劭《漢書音義》到西晉時期的晉灼《漢書集注》、臣瓚《漢書集解音義》,再到唐代初年的顔師古注,《漢書》注釋經歷了由“音義”體到“集注”體、由《漢書》學南北分流到《漢書》顔注集其大成的發展過程。

明代王世貞删改劉義慶《世説新語》和何良俊《語林》而成《世説新語補》,此書在日本江户時代甚爲流行,並且出現了大量的注釋本。在這一注釋群體中,有一批僧人特别引人注目。本文在全面把握相關史料的基礎上,勾勒出江户時期僧人《世説》注的整體面貌,揭示了僧人《世説》注的貢獻和特點,對其學術淵源作了更爲準確的釐清。希望透過這一研究,提請學術界對江户學問僧之成就與貢獻的注意,並再次呼籲將東亞漢傳佛教的文獻當做一個整體來處理,逐步打破以國别爲單位的佛教文獻、思想、信仰的研究。

陶淵明的文學史地位並不“一帆風順”,他在當時和稍後並不曾被普遍推重,趙宋以降則聲譽日隆。陶淵明的文學史命運,和他的文體選擇息息相關。作爲一個晉宋之際的文人,陶淵明留存的辭賦很少,且皆爲模擬之作,只能展現其文章才能。但陶詩恰與陶賦形成一鮮明對比,陶淵明經營了一個廣闊的“詩世界”,含攝生平、交遊、思想諸方面。縱覽魏晉文學史,陶淵明是第一位單獨憑藉詩歌就可奠定文學史崇高地位的“詩人”。詩賦之外,陶淵明的文章也旁涉了唐宋方有的“散文”境界。這一獨特的文體選擇,決定了陶淵明的文學史“位置”。

北宋禪僧惠洪最早記録了蘇軾前身是雲門宗禪僧五祖師戒的故事。他不僅構建了這個故事,也一手記録了五祖師戒形象的所有元素。惠洪所爲可能與其祖師黄龍慧南叛出雲門宗這一事件相關,他通過建構蘇軾前身故事及五祖師戒形象,來維護黄龍慧南的聲名,表明其並非背叛雲門宗,而是真正傳承雲門法脈。後來蘇軾前身故事被世俗社會引入戲曲小説,並將其與紅蓮故事拼合,展現出與士大夫話語不一樣的面貌,成爲禪宗在世俗社會的傳法手段。五祖師戒在小説戲曲中被訛變爲五戒禪師,這個新形象成爲流傳最廣的蘇軾前身樣態。

從“三七之厄”推算思想看,路温舒提出的“漢厄三七之間”,主要涉及天文與曆數;谷永在路温舒基礎上,又增加了《周易》思想;王莽的“三七之厄”,主要與《周易》、讖緯、五行有關。從三人“三七之厄”思想的變化及其與經學之關係看,路温舒以董仲舒《公羊春秋》説災異,是西漢初年流行做法;谷永説災異,較爲深入地援引各種經學文字,並且在西漢通行經文文字基礎上,開始引用古文經文字;王莽的“三七之厄”説,除了繼續以古文經學説災異,還採納了齊人甘忠可的讖緯學説。劉秀時期提出的“四七之際火爲主”,仍然沿襲的是王莽“三七之厄”的推算方式。二者皆爲王莽代漢、劉秀代莽的輿論工具。

國家圖書館藏陳澧《學思録》稿本由原北平圖書館而來,是高隱芩所藏陳澧稿本中的部分文稿,該稿本包含有陳澧論陶淵明、清朝學者、《周易》、《論語》、朱熹等總計五部分内容。學界一直對高氏所藏此部分文稿的下落不甚明了,所以國圖藏陳澧稿本《學思録》的價值不言自喻。

遞藏·題跋·複製:蘇軾《洞庭春色賦》、《中山松醪賦》書跡, Lo-Fen I

蘇軾《洞庭春色賦》、《中山松醪賦》合卷書於北宋哲宗紹聖元年(1094),白麻紙,全幅縱28.3釐米,横306.3釐米,加上後人的題跋,總共全長450.3釐米,是篇幅最長的蘇軾書跡,現藏吉林省博物院。本文分析《洞庭春色賦》和《中山松醪賦》的書寫與複製情形,整理歷代庋藏流轉脈絡,以及九位題跋者的十三則題跋。研究發現:蘇軾多次書寫此二賦,尤其是寫《中山松醪賦》予友人,彌補個人作品出版受限制的困境。後世的石刻和法帖促進此二賦的傳布。乾隆皇帝至少兩次臨摹《中山松醪賦》,四度題寫《洞庭春色賦》、《中山松醪賦》合卷,其中兩次是在蘇軾寫《中山松醪賦》的河北定州,頗具深意。

庚子之變是近代中國創傷性經驗的歷史關捩點,也引發了悲情書寫的機制。本文討論世紀之初一群在京文人的詩詞寫作,特别圍繞兩個相關的個案:對珍妃之死的回應,以及王鵬運、朱祖謀與劉福姚等篝燈酬唱而完成的兩部詞集《庚子秋詞》與《春蟄吟》。各種幽微曲折的心思,託喻性的整體風格,鑲嵌繁複的典故,共同成就了那一時期的詞學風貌。集體的唱酬進一步劃分或强化了知識群體,爲有共同文化信念的文人提供表達的機緣、情感慰藉的場域。在這類高度風格化的書寫中,女性的符號成爲其中最活躍的修辭要素。本文探討創傷、隱喻、女性身體與家國想像這些交相糾結的命題,以及托喻作爲一種古老的“詩用”行爲對於晚清士大夫階層的意義。

王昶的《金石萃編》將目録、集釋與按語匯爲一編,成爲清代金石學上的劃時代的著作,後人仿效其體例,續補著作多達二十餘部。《金石萃編》與其續補著作共同構建了清代金石學的壹個學術傳統,這種學術傳統是以匯集前人考證題跋爲中心,辨析源流、考索史實,對後代金石學著作的編纂起到了典範作用。考察《金石萃編》之續補,一方面可以利用金石與文獻互證的方法,辨析《金石萃編》的文字或史實錯誤,另一方面,亦可探究《金石萃編》及其續補著作在清代金石學上的學術意義。

蠶絲業在廣東近代經濟中具有舉足輕重的地位。20世紀二三十年代,私立嶺南大學蠶絲科根據廣東蠶絲業發展現狀,開展調查研究,展開蠶病治理與預防,改良蠶種培育與育蠶及桑種培育與栽桑技術,重視成果技術推廣,致力於廣東蠶絲業的發展,開展了一系列富有成效的活動。嶺南大學蠶絲科的發展既是美國改良廣東蠶絲的迫切需要的推動,又離不開廣東發展經濟的客觀要求,也是華人致力於嶺南大學“中國化”持續努力的結果;在促進蠶絲技術的改進,提高蠶絲品質的同時,增强了廣東蠶絲的市場競争力;也打破了傳統的蠶絲生産觀念,促進了蠶農對蠶絲應用技術的重視,在一定程度上促進了蠶絲業的發展。
