In Rift, Aimee Marie Odum May 2016

In Rift, Aimee Marie Odum

Theses and Dissertations

In Rift is an exhibition of object, video, and sound installations investigating the process of embodying ambience from the natural world. As a whole, this work questions the distinct differences in experiencing a place psychologically, through the circulation of digital media, and holistically, in actual, present time. In Rift is comprised of two distinct works: Loose Liquids and Gorge. The first piece, Loose Liquids, contains specific imagery of water, rock, plant life, and digital blobs, combined with human cadence such as breathing, shivering, and rolling. This explores how a location’s details accumulatively contribute to an overall experience as we ...

From Runway To Museum: Creating Successful Exhibitions Showing The Interrelationship Between Fashion And Art, Erica Kroening Aug 2014

From Runway To Museum: Creating Successful Exhibitions Showing The Interrelationship Between Fashion And Art, Erica Kroening

Journal of Undergraduate Research at Minnesota State University, Mankato

Historically, high-end fashion has been reduced to ideas of materialism and functionality in the eyes of the average person. What has commonly been overlooked on the runways of New York, Paris, and Milan was the idea of fashion as an object of art. Some designers, artists, and art historians have always given fashion the warranted classification as art, but this concept is not yet accepted by the regular museum visitor. This paper focuses on three high-end fashion exhibitions that show when a designer’s inspiration and vision is successfully translated into a museum setting, it encourages the visitor to see ...

Mounting A Costume Exhibit:, Linda Arthur Bradley

International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA) Annual Conference Proceedings

Our apparel program is fortunate to have a large historic costume collection, and access to an exhibition gallery. We have a class on costume museum management. It is an elective, and low enrollments in the class have been a problem. Until recently the course had primarily been taught through standard readings and lectures, followed by some work with garments in the collection.

The Festive City, Evelyn Lincoln, Emily J. Peters Dec 2012

The Festive City, Evelyn Lincoln, Emily J. Peters

Books

In early modern Europe (1500-1800), festivals enlivened civic spaces with a frequency, scale, and magnificence unrecognizable to us today. Festivals marked ritual moments, praised political agendas, and provided public entertainment. Europe’s papal court, sovereign powers, civic governments, and high aristocracy sponsored festivals for all sorts of occasions, staging joyous entry processions when foreign dignitaries entered a city, celebrating coronations, marriages, royal births, and funerals, and honoring saint’s days and Carnival season. Festivals shaped the public spaces of European cities. Buildings, plazas, stairways, and roadways were constructed specifically with festivals in mind. Likewise, festivals put the social structure of ...

Dark Skate, Lia Halloran

Art Faculty Creative Works – Exhibitions

"The ten photographs on view were taken at night in various Los Angeles locations ranging from spaces appropriated by skateboarders, such as the Los Angeles River, to skate parks and backyard ramps.

The works blur the boundaries of photography and become self-portraits and drawings as well as records of performances. Light is used to form the drawing line while HALLORAN skateboards at night through different venues. The resulting images are each a trajectory of the artist’s movements over time. The photographs pair urban environments with lines of light which behave as physical objects or break apart into flurries of ...
