In recent years, traditional printing methods have been integrated to print flexible electronic devices and circuits. Since process requirements for electronics diff er from those for graphic printing, the fundamentals require rediscovery mainly to optimize manufacturing techniques and to find cost reduction methods without compromising functional performance. In addition, alternative inks need to be formulated to increase the variety of functional inks and to pioneer new product developments. In this report, we investigate a thermoplastic-based nickel ink prototype to print electrodes using a screen-printing process. Process fundamentals are explored, and cost reduction methods are addressed by studying ...

Investigation Of Compression Strength Of Bliss Style Corrugated Fiberboard Boxes, Javier De La Fuente, Jay Singh, Rebecca Kisch, Soma Roy Nov 2018

Investigation Of Compression Strength Of Bliss Style Corrugated Fiberboard Boxes, Javier De La Fuente, Jay Singh, Rebecca Kisch, Soma Roy

Javier de la Fuente

The global demand for corrugated fiberboard is projected to experience a significant upsurge in the near future.
Based on the end-use, packaging for processed and fresh food categories accounted for approximately 39% of the
overall consumption of corrugated fiberboard in 2015. With key advantages such as providing an uninterrupted
bottom, laminated corners for higher stacking strength, increased material use efficiency, side cutout options for
display at retail and a wide range of styles over other styles of containers, Bliss style boxes find prominence in
the agriculture sector. While numerous predictive strength models associating corrugated fiberboard material
specifications to the box ...

The packaging sector is one of the massive traditional fields in the printing industry. The rapid developments in technology and environmental regulations have been affecting the expectations from packaging. User demands and the concerns to protect the environment are the two main factors that now demanding change in material properties. The choice used to depend on the physical and chemical requirements of the products, although today’s global mind set on the concepts such as biodegradability, recyclability, reusability, sustainability and carbon footprint reduction are becoming the reason to tailor packaging properties. In general, the choices have been switching from petroleum ...

Reusing Denim, Anna Li Oct 2018

Reusing Denim, Anna Li

Anna Li

The purpose of this project is to use up-cycle denim to create a gender-neutral work wear for design students to work in studio. The use of up-cycle denim is to aim for the collection to be environmentally friendly. Since this collection is geared towards female students, the garments underneath the denim are knit dresses for comfort and easier movement.

A Bookbinder’S Journey, Peter D. Verheyen Jul 2018

A Bookbinder’S Journey, Peter D. Verheyen

Peter D Verheyen

The Syracuse University Libraries Assembly (SULA) presents Peter Verheyen, Librarian at Syracuse University Libraries. At this illustrated lecture on July 30, 2018 Verheyen spoke to his career as a bookbinder with a focus on his creative work. A video recording that also includes the questions & answers can be viewed here. Among the facets discussed were how his experiences and the mentorship he received as a work-study student guided him to apprentice in his “native” Germany; the materials and techniques he uses to craft his bindings, many of which have been exhibited throughout the US and abroad; and a recent project ...

Assur Is King Of Persia: Illustrations Of The Book Of Esther In Some Nineteenth-Century Sources, Steven W. Holloway Jun 2018

Assur Is King Of Persia: Illustrations Of The Book Of Esther In Some Nineteenth-Century Sources, Steven W. Holloway

Steven W Holloway

The marriage of archaeological referencing and picture Bibles in the nineteenth century resulted in an astonishing variety of guises worn by the court of Ahasuerus in Esther. Following the exhibition of Neo-Assyrian sculpture in the British Museum and the wide circulation of such images in various John Murray publications, British illustrators like Henry Anelay defaulted to Assyrian models for kings and rulers in the Old Testament, including the principal actors in Esther, even though authentic Achaemenid Persian art had been available for illustrative pastiche for decades. This curious adoptive choice echoed British national pride in its splendid British Museum collection ...

Graphic Language In The Library, Gayle Schaub, Vinicius Lima

Gayle Schaub

Learn the Terms is a graphic art/academic library collaborative project in which students create touchpoints that illustrate the meanings of information literacy terms used in libraries, library instruction, and college course and course materials. Designed by students in a senior-level graphic design course, the campaign began as the result of a large-scale assessment of students’ understanding of library research terminology that showed a large percentage of university students don’t understand common research and information terms used by professors and librarians.

A Woman, In Bed, Anne M. Giangiulio May 2018

A Woman, In Bed, Anne M. Giangiulio

Anne M. Giangiulio

Simone comes of age in WWI. She comes into her own in WWII as part of the French resistance. Frequently, she abandons herself to lust—particularly to a man named Jacques. She leaves her first husband for Jacques and spends over a decade as his lover. They eventually marry, yet Simone still sleeps with strangers, her husband the most distant of them all. What is she seeking? Simone isn’t sure. More than sex—a tenderness that lust can never fill. Just when her body feels most fragile, she meets Pierre, a much younger man, a novice at love-making, clumsy ...

Passages Through The Ordinary: Human Pyramid, Daniel Dean Feb 2018

Passages Through The Ordinary: Human Pyramid, Daniel Dean

Daniel Dean

A man picks his way across a wooded hillside, a curious reluctance in his step. In a small, two-door hatchback, pale mushrooms sprout from car seats. Drawings of edibles spread across the walls of a windowless room, where wooden furniture beckons to sit, linger, and enjoy the view. A dumpster doubles as a hot tub next to an arrangement of plywood benches and white ceramic tubs, inviting the weary to bathe their feet in salubrious salts. Close by, a set of coal-black bowls nestles into itself, while dust motes dance in a glow of orange light. Ladders and levels, carefully ...

Nickel Based Printed Resistance Temperature Detector On Flexible Polyimide Substrate, Vikram S. Turkani, Binu B. Narakatku, Dinesh Maddipatla, Bilge N. Altay, Paul D. Fleming, Bradley J. Bazuin, Massood Atashbar Dec 2017

Nickel Based Printed Resistance Temperature Detector On Flexible Polyimide Substrate, Vikram S. Turkani, Binu B. Narakatku, Dinesh Maddipatla, Bilge N. Altay, Paul D. Fleming, Bradley J. Bazuin, Massood Atashbar

Bilge Nazli Altay

A fully printed nickel (Ni) based resistance temperature detector (RTD) was successfully developed for temperature sensing applications in the automobile, agricultural and consumer electronic industries. The RTD was fabricated by
depositing nickel (Ni) ink on a flexible polyimide (PI) substrate using screen printing process. The capability of the printed RTD was demonstrated by measuring its resistive response for temperatures varying from -60 °C to 180 °C, in steps of 20 °C and its sensing characteristics such as linearity, sensitivity and repeatability were analyzed. The printed RTD demonstrated a linear response with resistive changes as high as 109% at 180 °C ...

Where Do You Want To Live? A Pilot Study To Establish Housing Preferences Of Young Adults With Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder, An Traumatic Brain Injury., Julie Elaine N. Irish, Noorh Aldadi, Marilyn J. Bruin

Julie Elaine Irish

Young adults with neurodevelopmental brain disorders such as Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorders (FASD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) are often provided with unsuitable public housing that is not tailored to support their differences, needs, and wants. This poster illustrates a pilot research project to survey young adults in this population to find out what their preferences are in terms of where and how they would like to live.
