Daniel Webster Presidential Campaign Broadside, Ernest M. Oleksy Dec 2018

Daniel Webster Presidential Campaign Broadside, Ernest M. Oleksy

The Downtown Review

A picture is worth a thousand words. When it comes to learning about history, a strong image can engage students in thinking about the way society operated better than reading a chapter out of a history book. This broadside is a creative design used not to imply that Daniel Webster had a presidential campaign flyer similar to it, but rather as an artistic re-imagining of what campaigning was like in 19th century U.S.A. This broadside serves two purposes. The first is as a creative expression and artistic venture. The second is as a rough approximation to traditional broadsides ...

How To Create A Stunning Video Orientation By Hand, Rachel S. Evans

Articles, Chapters and Online Publications

This article describes the multi-faceted approach UGA Law Library took with their fall 2018 first year student orientation. It describes the process of the creating a virtual tour experience, pairing it with a hybrid face-to-face event, and assessing the impact of all aspects of the orientation. The creation of the video itself involved a multi-media approach using a combination of visual arts and technology to animate a product that has a longer expiration than traditional video or in-person library orientations offer.

11 - Jungle Slang, Andres Osorio Nov 2018

11 - Jungle Slang, Andres Osorio

Georgia Undergraduate Research Conference (GURC)

Dusk envelops the jungle as light flickers from a small cave. A sweet smell emanates from deep within its passages. As you approach, the soft melody of traditional Moroccan instruments lull you into a trance. The dirt floor of the cave casually fades into tiles and the rock walls are overtaken by beautiful mosaics. The air is thick with the gum and spice burned from incense. Its hazy soot clouds your vision. The passageway seems to extend endlessly until suddenly erupting into a large dimly lit atrium. Tapestry hangs lazily from the lounge’s ceiling in vibrant crimsons and golds ...

Transforming Early Concepts With Design Heuristics, Keelin Leahy, Shanna R. Daly, Jaclyn K. Murray, Seda Mckilligan, Colleen M. Seifert Oct 2018

Transforming Early Concepts With Design Heuristics, Keelin Leahy, Shanna R. Daly, Jaclyn K. Murray, Seda Mckilligan, Colleen M. Seifert

Industrial Design Publications

Idea development in the early phases of the design process often involves the transformation of initial concepts into more feasible alternatives. However, this important component of design activity is often under-emphasized in design education, and tools to facilitate iteration of designs are limited. This study investigated Design Heuristics as a tool for the further development of initial concepts created by student designers. In a single session, advanced engineering students created initial concepts, and then used Design Heuristics to transform these concepts into alternative designs. The concept sets generated were analyzed, and eight types of transformations were identified, including the enhancement ...
