This piece was put together with a desire to explore the creation of textiles with untraditional materials. The idea was to start completely from scratch and transform unexpected materials into wearable art. I wanted to create something that evoked conversation about what a textile is and how far the boundaries may be pushed while still being considered a textile.

Traditional quilting has been a large influence most of my life. In the past few years, contemporary quilting and art quilting has become a large part of my work. Analyzing the hippy generation of the late 1960s inspired the quilted coat “Flower Power.” The coat that was created serves a duel purpose; it is wearable art as well as wall art.

I create sculptural objects from found materials that exemplify my interest in line and texture. My art is familiar, yet illusive, woven from layers of various widths of latex tubing interlaced with rigid, painted metal that act as wire-like scaffolds. The lines move in, around, and off the sculptures, giving a life-form to the object within space. Lines can be described in terms of length, width, height, and depth. When these elements are combined through either parallel accumulation, or crosshatching, they create a visual surface or texture.
