This article will examine two initiatives, Public Doors and Windows (PDW) and Les Nouveaux Commanditaires (NC) (‘The New Patrons’) that reflect a diverse range of practices that contribute to, or create, museum ecologies outside the physical and conceptual spaces of museums. These museum ecologies also contribute to discourses on the participatory museum and intersect with experiments in community engagement and social practice. Perfect Patola is a reincarnation designed to create a statement of ikat artisan textiles from the designer’s collection of sarees in an aesthetically pleasing gown that highlights cultural roots, artisan appreciation, personal meaning, and sustainable thinking. Ikat textiles is a beautiful and laborious art form created through a multistage process of marking, binding, dyeing, weaving, and subtle manipulation of yarns. The Fashion System & Material Analysis: Issey Miyake's 132 5 Collection, Krissi Riewe

International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA) Annual Conference Proceedings

A case-study on an Issey Miyake 132 5 collection piece is used to unpack the relationship between clothing and fashion design within the fashion system. Within the conceptual framework of this system, Miyake's making philosophy arguably positions his work as clothes, not fashion. Instead, his work offers a critical response to the fashion system by focusing on the connection between designer and wearer through the material object of clothing, thereby calling into question our understandings of the relationship between fashion and clothing.

Outlaw Artists And The Urban Landscape: Does One Have To Be Bad To Be Good?, Teresa A. Paschke

Art and Visual Culture Publications

There are several seemingly obvious connections between outlaws and artists: both have been mythologized through books, newspaper accounts, tabloid chronicles, talk show interviews, and movies depicting the positive and negative outcomes of their accomplishments; artists and outlaws alike tend to live according to their own rules; and outlaws, as well as some artists, tend to burn out early.
