Greenways To Health: The Links Between Access To Green Space And Healthy Communities, Catharine Ward Thompson Jan 2016

Greenways To Health: The Links Between Access To Green Space And Healthy Communities, Catharine Ward Thompson

Proceedings of the Fábos Conference on Landscape and Greenway Planning

The European Landscape Convention stresses the significance of “everyday” landscapes in which people live and go about their daily activities; it identifies such landscapes as important for people’s quality of life, their wellbeing and their individual and cultural identity (Council of Europe, 2000, pp 8-11, 23). As we reach the point, globally, where more people live in towns and cities than in rural locations, new questions are being raised about how well such environments serve as human habitat. There is a new impetus to interest in links between environment, health and quality of life, and greenways and green spaces ...

Riverside Parks As A Tool Of Landscape Transformation And Reconnecting People With Urban Nature, Kasper Jakubowski Jan 2016

Riverside Parks As A Tool Of Landscape Transformation And Reconnecting People With Urban Nature, Kasper Jakubowski

Proceedings of the Fábos Conference on Landscape and Greenway Planning

The author presents the synthesis of his latest research results regarding the new concepts of urban green spaces, so called “ecology parks” or “naturalized parks” designed in many European cities since the beginning of 1990s. These relatively new types of parks (Cranz, Boland, 2004) have been created also in the immediate neighbourhood of urban riversides include reclaimed brownfield sites, restored floodplains and the remnants of semi-natural riparian vegetation in a city (urban wilds) (Jakubowski, 2015). The paper identifies what contribution the sustainable models of riverine parks can make to ecological balance of modern cities and solving environmental problems while enhancing ...

A Systematic Review Of Landscape Corridor Conservation And Management In Europe, Haiyun Xu, Tobias Plieninger, Jørgen Primdahl

Proceedings of the Fábos Conference on Landscape and Greenway Planning

Since EU Commission initiated Green Infrastructure (GI) strategy, an important step has been taken to help public to understand benefits of nature, such as providing food, clean air, and water resource. Besides, Green Infrastructure plays an important role in climate regulation, stormwater prevention, sustaining biodiversity. And its recreational function is also valuable for human society. Therefore, it is necessary to invest more resources in Green Infrastructure to develop, maintain and sustain it (Green Infrastructure COM, 2013).

Green Infrastructure is planned as a strategically network of natural and seminatural areas with environmental functions and its elements are designed and managed to ...

On The Possibility Of Extending The European Green Belt To The Hungarian-Romanian Border Region, Zoltán Zakota, Tamás Z. Zakota Jan 2016

On The Possibility Of Extending The European Green Belt To The Hungarian-Romanian Border Region, Zoltán Zakota, Tamás Z. Zakota

Proceedings of the Fábos Conference on Landscape and Greenway Planning

In our present paper we make an attempt to put together some relevant information, based mainly on regional statistics and administrative data, in order to outline a blueprint of a greenway plan for the Hungarian-Romanian border area that could be able to create more opportunities for the sustainable development of the region through the green belt development. The target-area consists of eight counties, four on each side of the common border: Szabolcs- Szatmár-Bereg, Hajdú-Bihar, Békés and Csongrád in Hungary, respectively Satu Mare, Bihor, Arad and Timiș in Romania. Protection of nature and, in general, environment is an important issue because ...
