The Biased Media And Their Utilization Of Propaganda: The True Obstructionists Of World Events And Our Minds, David B. Ross, Gina Peyton, Melissa Tara Sasso, Rande Matteson, Cortney Matteson Dec 2019

The Biased Media And Their Utilization Of Propaganda: The True Obstructionists Of World Events And Our Minds, David B. Ross, Gina Peyton, Melissa Tara Sasso, Rande Matteson, Cortney Matteson

Dr. Melissa Tara Sasso

Propaganda is a widely controversial issue, especially when it collides with the media and politicians. This complex system creates tension between those who have a personal agenda to disseminate false statements to advance their plan to manipulate the minds of the public. Based upon 24/7 cable news and social media, there seems to be a miscommunication and disconnect from the truth regarding how the media reports world events, politics, environment, and how politicians were elected to help their constituents, not their own personal agendas. This chapter will address the concern for a better system of reporting the facts and ...

Panel 11. Paper 11.3: Views Through Rose-Colored Glasses: The Need For Diverse Lenses To Support Rural Landscape Heritage, Steve H. Brown Dr, Cari Goetcheus Associate Professor Oct 2019

Panel 11. Paper 11.3: Views Through Rose-Colored Glasses: The Need For Diverse Lenses To Support Rural Landscape Heritage, Steve H. Brown Dr, Cari Goetcheus Associate Professor

Rural Heritage - Landscapes and Beyond / PATRIMOINE RURAL: Paysages et au-delĂ

The ICOMOS-IFLA Principles Concerning Rural Landscape as Heritage (the Principles; 2017) provide a comprehensive outline of the fields and work required to better recognise and safeguard rural landscape heritage. The Principles acknowledge that the field of heritage conservation cannot sustain rural places and traditional rural heritage landscapes on their own, but must engage with a diverse breadth of disciplines to support and safeguard these spaces. The Principles seek to address loss and adverse changes to rural landscapes and their associated communities through the recognition, safeguarding, and promotion of their heritage values. They aim to promote an appropriate balance between economic ...

Initial Field Testing Results From Building-Integrated Solar Energy Harvesting Windows Installation In Perth, Australia, Mikhail Vasiliev, Mohammad Nur-E-Alam, Kamal Alameh Sep 2019

Initial Field Testing Results From Building-Integrated Solar Energy Harvesting Windows Installation In Perth, Australia, Mikhail Vasiliev, Mohammad Nur-E-Alam, Kamal Alameh

Mikhail Vasiliev

We report on the field testing datasets and performance evaluation results obtained
from a commercial property-based visually-clear solar window installation site in Perth-Australia.
This installation was fitted into a refurbished shopping center entrance porch and showcases the
potential of glass curtain wall-based solar energy harvesting in built environments. In particular,
we focus on photovoltaic (PV) performance characteristics such as the electric power output, specific
yield, day-to-day consistency of peak output power, and the amounts of energy generated and stored
daily. The dependencies of the generated electric power and stored energy on multiple environmental
and geometric parameters are also studied. An ...

Developing A Workflow To Integrate Tree Inventory Data Into Urban Energy Models, Farzad Hashemi, Breanna L. Marmur, Ulrike Passe, Janette R. Thompson Sep 2019

Developing A Workflow To Integrate Tree Inventory Data Into Urban Energy Models, Farzad Hashemi, Breanna L. Marmur, Ulrike Passe, Janette R. Thompson

Ulrike Passe

Building energy simulation is of considerable interest and benefit for architects, engineers, and urban planners. Only recently has it become possible to develop integrated energy models for clusters of buildings in urban areas. Simulating energy consumption of the built environment on a relatively large scale (e.g., such as a neighborhood) will be necessary to obtain more reliable results, since building energy parameters are influenced by characteristics of the nearby environment. Therefore, the construction of a 3-D model of urban built areas with detail of the near-building environment should enhance simulation approaches and provide more accurate results. This paper describes ...
